After three innings, he was forced to leave the game as he was experiencing discomfort in his right lat muscle. Scherzer then made the connection that the lat soreness was connected to his thumb. He was then placed on the 15-day IL on March 30th. Scherzer was also dealing with the pain in his thumb during camp, and the thumb issue has been a consistent issue he’s been dealing with since last season. According to Schneider, he wants Scherzer to get this issue taken care of.

“The longer he is out, the longer it will take to get him back,” Schneider said. “But I think first and foremost, just want to get it right.”

The Blue Jays would be wise not to force his return and make sure he is in perfect health before returning. Considering Scherzer’s age and how persistent his thumb issue has been, things aren’t looking the brightest. Luckily, Easton Lucas has filled in for the veteran and has been pitching well across two starts, giving up no runs. It looks like the rookie will be getting more opportunities in the rotation. However, the Blue Jays could also turn to Jake Bloss if Lucas experiences any struggles. Last season, Scherzer recorded a 2-4 record with a 3.95 ERA.

Main Photo Credits: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images

The latest injury update with Max Scherzer is not the best news for the Blue Jays, as he is still dealing with pain in his thumb.
