Atlanta was thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/2017\/10\/02\/braves-gm-john-coppolella-resigns\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the resignation of GM<\/a>\u00a0<strong>John Coppolella<\/strong>\u00a0amidst ugly allegations. The Braves are still waiting to hear what the punishment will be for the violations incurred, but they have reportedly found their next GM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joel Sherman\u00a0<\/strong>of The New York Post shared the news that Atlanta will hire former\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>GM\u00a0<strong>Alex Anthopoulos<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Can report now Anthopoulos is getting <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Braves?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Braves<\/a> GM job, announcement possible at GM Meetings<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Joelsherman1\/status\/929931300999434240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 13, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Alex Anthopoulos to be named Atlanta Braves GM<\/h2>\n<h3>Past Work<\/h3>\n<p>Anthopoulos rose to prominence during his time with Toronto. He began working with the Jays in 2003 and was promoted to Assistant GM following the 2005.\u00a0Anthopoulos served in that role until late in 2009 when he took over the GM position following the firing of <strong>J.P. Ricciardi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Anthopoulos&#8217; work was not always conventional, but he certainly did good work during his time with the Jays. He took over a team that finished 75-87 in 2009 and turned the team around to an 85-77 record the next year. The team made a number of high-profile trades during his tenure that had varying degrees of success. The biggest knock against\u00a0Anthopoulos is the trade that sent prospects\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/syndeno01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noah Syndergaard<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/darnatr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Travis d&#8217;Arnaud<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/new-york-mets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>New York Mets<\/strong><\/a>. That deal did not work out, but\u00a0Anthopoulos also pulled off an incredible steal of star 3B\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/donaljo02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Donaldson<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In six seasons with\u00a0Anthopoulos in Toronto, the Jays had just two losing seasons and advanced to the ALCS in 2015 following a number of mid-season acquisitions.\u00a0Anthopoulos acquired\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tulowtr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Troy Tulowitzki<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/priceda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Price<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reverbe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ben Revere<\/a><\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pennicl01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cliff Pennington<\/a><\/strong> during 2015 that saw the Jays advance all the way to the ALCS.\u00a0Anthopoulos would turn down a five-year extension following 2015 amidst speculation that there was a rift between new president\u00a0<strong>Mark Shapiro\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Anthopoulos.<\/p>\n<p>For the past two seasons,\u00a0Anthopoulos has served as the VP of Baseball Operations of the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-dodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>under\u00a0<strong>Andrew Friedman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Outlook<\/h3>\n<p>Braves fans should be extremely happy with the hire of\u00a0Anthopoulos. He had an extremely strong record with Toronto, and it should be noted again that it was Anthopoulos who made the decision to leave.
