During Neshek’s four years with the Twins he made 132 appearances acquiring a 3.05 ERA, winning 11 games in 129.2 innings pitched. He made an appearance in the Twins playoff appearance against the Oakland Athletics in the ALDS, unfortunately acquiring a loss. On March 20th, 2011, Neshek was claimed off waivers by the San Diego Padres after being sent down to the minor leagues by the Twins. He only played in San Diego for about a year before becoming a free agent. After San Diego, at first, Neshek signed a minor league deal with the Baltimore Orioles on January 30th, 2012, but was traded to the Oakland Athletics on August 3rd, 2012 in exchange for future considerations, which just turned out to be cash.

Neshek would spend two years in Oakland, in that time he generated a 2.70 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched and 69 appearances. After his two years in Oakland, Neshek would sign a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, and was then purchased from the minors on March 30th, 2014. After his year in St. Louis, Neshek would sign a two-year deal with the Houston Astros. During his two years in Houston, Neshek had a 3.36 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 101.2 innings pitched. After his time in Houston, the Astros would trade him to the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later. This trade occurred on November 4th, 2016. After a year with Philadelphia, Neshek was traded once again. This time, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for shortstop Jose Gomez, pitcher J.D Hammer, and pitcher Alejandro Requena.

The Impact of the Signing

Neshek, who is known for his submarine delivery into a sidearm, will be an anchor that the Phillies have needed. With his career 2.75 ERA, this is a signing that will do a lot to address a major need in the bullpen.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

Pat Neshek has been a journeyman of sorts throughout his entire career, moving from team to team.
