Frick Award Ballot Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Baseball Hall of Fame has announced the ballot for the 2018 Ford C. Frick Award, their annual broadcasting excellence award.<\/p>\n<h2>Hall of Fame&#8217;s 2018 Ford C. Frick Award Ballot Announced<\/h2>\n<p>This year\u2019s slate of eight Candidates are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddy Blatiner<\/strong> who spent many years in national television booths in the early days of television with Liberty, Mutual, ABC and CBS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joe Buck<\/strong>, the long-time Emmy wining FOX Sports lead play-by-play announcer, as well as broadcaster with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/st-louis-cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Cardinal<\/a> organization since 1989.\u00a0 And is the son of Frick Award Winner <strong>Jack Buck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob Costas<\/strong>, long time voice of baseball for NBC Sports and the MLB Network.\u00a0 Mostly play-by-play and desk show anchor, the Emmy winning Costas has been a big part of the baseball on television family since the early 1980s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dizzy Dean<\/strong>, already a Hall of Fame pitcher, he spent 24 years broadcasting, mostly for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/baltimore-orioles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Browns<\/a>, and on a national stage for CBS\u2019 Game of The Week from 1955-1965.\u00a0 Became a \u201cNational Treasure\u201d due to his way of mangling the English language and home spun way of telling stories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don Drysdale<\/strong>, Hall of Fame pitcher spent 23 years in various booths, including his final six seasons with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-dodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>.\u00a0 Also did national telecasts with ABC from 1977-1987.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Al Michaels<\/strong>, like Costas was the face of a network&#8217;s sports department, ABC to be specific where he contributed to baseball broadcasts from 1976-1989, as well as the ill-fated The Baseball Network from 1995-1996.\u00a0 Also spent time with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/cincinnati-reds\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cincinnati Reds<\/a> from 1971-1973.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joe Morgan<\/strong>, Hall of Fame second baseman spent 25 years calling baseball games on TV, most notably with NBC from 1994-2000, and ESPN from 1990-2010.\u00a0 Also worked games with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/oakland-athletics\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oakland Athletics<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/san-francisco-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Francisco Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pee Wee Reese<\/strong>, the Hall of Fame shortstop spent 11 seasons on television from 1960-1969, mostly as Dean\u2019s partner on CBS, as well as NBC\u2019s Game of The Week package as well.<\/p>\n<p>The ballot was created by a subcommittee within the electorate of the 11 living Frick winners and four historians of baseball broadcasting.<\/p>\n<p>The award winner will be announced at the Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Florida on December 13<sup>th<\/sup>, and will be presented on July 28<sup>th<\/sup> in Cooperstown during Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo<br \/>\n<a id=\"TUUAV_4BRv1xvaHLOhmiFg\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/853866442\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'TUUAV_4BRv1xvaHLOhmiFg',sig:'3gzuKFWNOEqAezeASvS4mupbfERSm98fMMaI2B5TvSQ=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'853866442',caption: true ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Baseball Hall of Fame has announced the ballot for the 2018 Ford C.
