Almost every year, the Dodgers build a dominant starting rotation, only to rely on their bullpen to survive the postseason. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, they still managed to win the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/10\/31\/dodgers-win-2024-world-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024 World Series<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Los Angeles was linked to this year\u2019s top free agent arms in Snell, Burnes, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/friedma01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Fried<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help them repeat their success in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/11\/26\/blake-snell-signs-with-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snell off the market<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, all eyes are on Burnes, the first-time free agent and former Cy Young winner<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Acquired <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/02\/01\/corbin-burnes-traded-orioles\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the Milwaukee Brewers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in February, the now 30-year-old right-hander was everything the Baltimore Orioles needed him to be and more. Burnes made 32 starts for Baltimore, finishing the season with a 2.92 ERA, 1.096 WHIP, and 181 strikeouts. He made his fourth consecutive All-Star Game and finished fifth in AL Cy Young voting, his fifth consecutive top-ten finish. Insiders agree that he will be seeking at least a six-year contract, likely in the $175 million-$200 million range. That is slightly higher than the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2023\/11\/19\/aaron-nola-phillies-contract\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">seven-year, $172 million extension<\/a> that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/n\/nolaaa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Nola<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> signed last year entering his age-31 campaign. But it&#8217;s less than the five-year, $182 million deal Snell, who turns 32 in December, signed with Los Angeles on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burnes was a perfect fit in Baltimore, but as a smaller market team, even under new ownership, retaining him will be a challenge for the Orioles. Between Snell and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kikucyu01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-11-27_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yusei Kikuchi<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/11\/25\/yusei-kikuchi-angels-3-year-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">three-year, $63 million deal<\/a> with the Los Angeles Angels, Boras has secured over $200 million this offseason. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this month\u2019s general managers\u2019 meetings, Boras blamed concerns over television revenue for last year\u2019s lackluster free agent market.
