More bad news came from the Mets latest medical report<\/a>. Along with the day-to-day injury updates, from\u00a0Michael Conforto<\/a><\/strong>‘s\u00a0<\/strong>surgery to\u00a0Amed Rosario<\/a><\/strong>‘s finger contusion, Mets former cornerstone third baseman\u00a0David Wright<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is scheduled to have surgery on his right rotator cuff tomorrow. The news comes a week after Wright ended his rehab assignment in Port St. Lucie due to recurring shoulder pain. News of surgery is a blow to Wright, who has played a total of 75 games in the last two years, including none this year.<\/p>\n

David Wright to Undergo Shoulder Surgery<\/h2>\n

At one point, Wright was the future of the Mets. He was a seven-time All-Star and considered by many to have been the centerpiece of the exciting Mets teams of the mid-to late-2000’s. His recent injury history has brought many to suggest retirement<\/a> and this latest news poses as yet another suggestion.<\/p>\n

Wright was able to battle back from injury in 2015 to help the Mets pursue their first National League Pennant since 2000. While the Mets didn’t win that World Series, Wright was still able to play in his first (and potentially his last) World Series.<\/p>\n

The latest news about Wright is just another story in a saga of injuries and unfortunate circumstances for the Mets.\u00a0<\/a>T.J. Rivera<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>will be\u00a0having\u00a0Tommy John surgery, ending both his rehab assignment and his season.\u00a0Wilmer Flores<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>will be examined tomorrow after fouling a ball off of his face, suffering a broken nose. However, in good news,\u00a0Noah Syndergaard<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>began his rehab assignment, throwing an inning in Port St. Lucie, and is scheduled to throw again in Brooklyn on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Had Wright not gone down the path of injuries, his place in the Hall of Fame would most likely have been set. Now, the future is murky\u00a0and there will be a\u00a0conversation about him not making the Hall at all. If this is indeed the last we’ve seen of Wright on a baseball field, it’s a troubling end to what could’ve been a legendary career.
