This season, he is 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA while allowing only two home runs over 56 2/3 innings. The right-hander seemed to have redeemed himself after a rough 2023 season where he finished with a 5.55 ERA and gave up a league-worst 34 homers. According to MASN’s Mark Zuckerman, Williams is determined to make sure he pitches again for Washington before the season ends. He is also a pending free agent who was never going to be viewed as a part of the long-term plan. However, the Nationals could re-sign him as the No. 5 starter or a long reliever.

Williams made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in September 2016 and played for the team until 2020. He then signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs in February 2021. The Cubs then traded Williams and veteran Javier Baez to the New York Mets for Pete Crow-Armstrong that July. The right-hander recorded his first career save with the Mets in July 2022. After that season, he signed a two-year, $13 million contract with Washington in December.

Born in San Diego, the Miami Marlins selected Williams out of Arizona State in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He then got experience within the Marlins’ farm system before getting traded to Pittsburgh in October 2015. Williams spent a majority of the 2016 season with Triple-A Indianapolis before being promoted to the majors in September.

Main Photo Credits: Brett Davis-Imagn Images

On Saturday afternoon, the Washington Nationals announced that veteran starter Trevor Williams will make a rehab start for Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday, according to multiple sources.
