One year after their first World Series title in franchise history, the Rangers at 63-71, have had a disappointing season, all but eliminating themselves from postseason contention. With Grossman and Jankowski both set for free agency at season\u2019s end, Texas will try to clear the pair\u2019s place on the 40-man roster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite their limited playing time, waiving both Grossman and Jankowski is surprising considering the current state of the Rangers\u2019 outfield. Outfielder <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carteev01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evan Carter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, their breakout star last postseason, has been sidelined since May with what Texas called lower back tightness. General manager Chris Young said last month that the Rangers are not expecting Carter to play again this season. Rookie <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/langfwy01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wyatt Langford<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, despite his own stint on the injured list, has locked left field down in Carter\u2019s absence. While <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/taverle01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leody Taveras<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/garciad02.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adolis Garc\u00eda<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> round out the Rangers outfield. Taking both Grossman and Jankowski out of the equation leaves Texas relying on Langford, Taveras, and Garc\u00eda and utilityman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/duranez01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ezequiel Dur\u00e1n<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> down the stretch.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Rangers Reshape Lineup in Latest Roster Move<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since neither Grossman nor Jankowski were designated for assignment, they can still play for Texas until the 48-hour waiver period expires on Saturday. If any club claims either outfielder, then the new club is responsible for the remainder of their contract. Jankowski has about $274,000 remaining in salary and Grossman about $242,000 for the final month of the season. Postseason-contending teams could pursue Grossman for his history against left-handed pitchers and Jankowski&#8217;s speed and his defense. If they stay on the wire, they can remain with Texas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By waiving the pair, the Rangers are likely looking to clear roster spots for the final month of the season.
