Marc Topkin of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tampa Bay Times<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported that the Rays will recall their top infield prospect <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/caminju01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Junior Caminero<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Triple-A Durham for Tuesday\u2019s game against the Astros. Since he is already on the 40-man roster, the Rays will only need to make an active roster transaction. Tampa Bay has yet to officially confirm Caminero\u2019s pending promotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Hearing that top prospect Junior Caminero has been called up by <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Rays?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Rays<\/a>, will join them Tuesday<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TBTimes_Rays\/status\/1823183101511557408?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">August 13, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caminero made his MLB debut last September, hitting .235\/.278\/.353 in seven games with one homer and seven RBI. The Rays included him on their Wild Card roster but went hitless in two at-bats against the Rangers. Caminero, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/prospects\/top100\/junior-caminero-691406\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">second-ranked prospect<\/a> in baseball, jumped from Double-A to the majors last season and reported to Spring Training ready to go wherever the Rays sent him.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Rays Promote Junior Caminero<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He began the season with Triple-A Durham, hitting 13 homers and driving in 34 runs while batting .276\/.331\/.498. The 21-year-old has been sidelined twice this season with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/05\/30\/rays-prospect-junior-caminero-injured-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">a pair of quad strains<\/a>, limiting him to just 53 games. Since his most recent injured list stint, Caminero is batting .304 with five homers and 10 RBI over 19 games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about what we\u2019re seeing. The at-bats since he\u2019s come back [from the injured list] have looked really good. The defense has made progress,\u201d Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said on Friday. \u201cIt\u2019s just a matter of wanting to make sure that, when he comes here, he\u2019s in a position to succeed. Because it is much, much harder to hit here than it is in Triple-A.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caminero is expected to get most of his playing time at third base and could get some at-bats as the Rays designated hitter. Tampa is hopeful the righty-hitting infielder can add more pop to a Rays lineup in dire need of a boost. They rank among the league\u2019s worst clubs this season in runs scored (28th), OPS (25th) and home runs (26th).
