That will continue for the foreseeable future in 2024. Boston\u2019s top prospects coined the \u201cBig Three,\u201d are all moving up the organization\u2019s ranks on Sunday. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=mayer-000mar\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marcelo Mayer<\/a>, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=anthon000rom\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roman Anthony<\/a>, and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=teel--000kyl\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Teel<\/a> are transitioning from Double-A (Portland Sea Dogs) to Triple-A (Worcester Red Sox), according to the Boston Globe\u2019s <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/alexspeier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Speier<\/a>. The group are all ranked inside <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/prospects\/top100\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MLB.com\u2019s<\/a> top-25 prospects. In 2024, Portland\u2019s squad was ranked the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/best-minor-league-teams-2024\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">third-best minor league team<\/a> in baseball. Much of that can be credited to Mayer, Anthony, and Teel, who have all strongly developed. Four of Boston\u2019s top-five prospects began the year with the Sea Dogs. The 21-year-old has mostly cruised through his minor league career thus far. Mayer was selected with the fourth pick in the 2021 MLB draft out of high school. He reached Double-A for the first time in 2023. After struggling last season, Mayer <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/07\/01\/marcelo-mayer-excelling-in-2024\/\" target=\"_self\">exploded<\/a> in 2024. He batted .307 with a .850 OPS and 28 doubles with the Sea Dogs this year. He recently came off the injured list but missed less than two weeks. Mayer was a part of the All-Star Futures Game, where he represented the American League.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mayer currently ranks as the sixth-best prospect in baseball. One of the players ahead of him, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hollija01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jackson Holliday<\/a> (Baltimore Orioles), is <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/08\/08\/orioles-jackson-holliday-historic-tear\/\" target=\"_self\">already in MLB<\/a>. Three of the top six come from the AL East, with Holliday in front and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=camine000jun\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Junior Caminero<\/a> (Tampa Bay Rays) sitting second. Mayer is the third-highest infielder on the list. He began 2024 slowly, batting just .219 on May 10. It\u2019s been a different story since for the 20-year-old. Anthony was up to .267 by mid-June and batted .284 in July. He\u2019s been on fire over his last ten matchups, collecting 18 hits, 11 RBI, and four home runs. Anthony slashed .269\/.367\/.489 in Double-A this year with 15 homers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anthony is the No. 13 prospect in baseball as of Sunday, the highest mark of his career. Just three outfielders sit above him: <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=crews-000dyl\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Crews<\/a> (Washington Nationals), <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=jenkin001wal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walker Jenkins<\/a> (Minnesota Twins), and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=clark-005max\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Clark<\/a> (Detroit Tigers). Anthony helps Boston be one of five MLB clubs with multiple players inside the top 15. He is the only one who attended college, spending three years at the University of Virginia. Teel was selected with the 14th pick of the 2023 MLB draft and immediately performed in the minors. He played across three levels last season, batting .363 in 26 contests. He <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/06\/01\/boston-prospect-kyle-teel-proves-potential-may\/\" target=\"_self\">kept producing<\/a> in 2024, appearing 84 times for the Sea Dogs. Teel batted .298 with 11 homers, 60 RBI, and 20 doubles this season. He\u2019s off to a hot start in August, posting a 1.032 OPS in 30 at-bats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teel makes Boston just one of three clubs with three top-25 prospects. He\u2019s ranked the fifth-best catcher on the list, trailing a group headlined by <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=salas-000eth\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ethan Salas<\/a> (San Diego Padres). Teel has already moved up nearly 20 spots in 2024 after starting the year at #40.
