According to MLB Network, Freddie Freeman<\/a>\u00a0will return to the Los Angeles line-up tonight. The Dodger first basemen had to leave the team in Houston last Friday when his three-year-old son, Maximus, was rushed to the hospital back in Los Angeles. Maximus has been diagnosed with Gillian-Barre Syndrome. Although rare in children, this neurological condition can cause full-body paralysis and, in Freeman’s case, difficulty breathing.<\/p>\n

The Freemans posted an update on Sunday, August 4, stating they were home from the hospital. They characterize their son’s rapid recovery as “a miracle…” Although the road to recovery is expected to be long, and the three-year-old must learn to walk again, the Freemans are grateful for Max’s progress and the prayers of others.<\/p>\n

Although the Family Emergency List allows up to 9 games to be missed, no timetable was set for Freeman’s return. Dave Roberts said that Freddie should take as much time as he needs, given the seriousness of the situation.<\/p>\n

Put Out An APB Out On The Offense?<\/h3>\n

The Dodgers have missed the steady production of their All-Star first baseman, going 3-5 in his absence. Additionally, they have struck out 100 times\u2014no, that is not a misprint. And they have gone 18-for-65 with runners in scoring position. This stat indicates the effectiveness or lack thereof of the Dodger offense.<\/p>\n

Other Reinforcements?<\/h3>\n

With the acquisitions of Jack Flaherty<\/a>, Michael Kopech, Amed Rosario, and Kevin Kiermaier at the trade deadline, the Dodgers seem to have more depth than before July 30. However, there is no substitute for a gold glove and a clutch bat, such as Freeman’s, and Los Angeles will be thankful upon his return.<\/p>\n
