When deadline day began, Scott was arguably the top relief pitcher left on the trading block. The left-handed pitcher will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The Padres are also acquiring reliever <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hoeinbr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bryan Hoeing<\/a> in the deal. He has a 1.18 ERA in 44 games, posting just a 1.01 WHIP. Scott has served as Miami\u2019s primary closer and has 18 saves. He\u2019s allowed just two runs since May 1 and has a 0.55 ERA in his last 30 appearances. Scott\u2019s 3.2 WAR led all Marlins players by a wide margin. He debuted in 2017 and pitched a total of 156 innings with the club, ending with a 4.73 ERA. The 30-year-old joined Miami before the 2022 season and had an overall 2.70 ERA with the organization. After struggling in his first campaign with the Marlins, he bounced back in 2023 with a 2.31 ERA in 78 innings. Scott\u2019s 2024 season has been another step up from last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryan Hoeing was also sent to San Diego in the Scott deal. The 27-year-old has a 2.70 ERA in 30 innings this season. He failed to pitch consistently in his first two years with Miami, posting a 12.08 and 5.48 ERA, respectively. Hoeing has an impressive ERA+ of 163 in 2024. Hoeing will be arbitration-eligible for the foreseeable future.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Marlins Get Huge Return In Tanner Scott Trade<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miami compensated for Scott&#8217;s loss with a strong return. San Diego was not afraid to hold on to its farm system, dealing three of its top-five prospects. Left-handed pitcher <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=snelli000rob\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robby Snelling<\/a>, the Padres No. 2 prospect according to <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/prospects\/padres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MLB.com<\/a>, headlines the deal. The 20-year-old was the 29th pick in 2022 and had a 1.82 ERA in 2023. He\u2019s struggled in 2024, though, posting a high 6.01 ERA in Double-A.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right-handed pitcher <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=mazur-000ada\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Mazur<\/a>, San Diego\u2019s 4th-best prospect, was a second-round pick in 2022. He pitched well in the minors before making his MLB debut in 2024. Across 33 \u2154 innings, things haven\u2019t gone well for Mazur. He had a 7.49 ERA in eight starts with the Padres this season. Padres No. 5 prospect, utilityman <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=pauley000gra\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graham Pauley<\/a>, was also included in the deal. Despite being a 13th-round pick in 2022, Pauley made the major leagues this season and had a .125 average in 32 at-bats. Infielder <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=beshea001jay\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jay Beshears<\/a>, San Diego\u2019s No. 24 prospect, rounds out Miami\u2019s haul.
