Chargois<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chargois missed the first several weeks of the season due to neck spasms but has been dominant since returning in mid-June. In 15 games, the righty has posted a 1.62 ERA (274 ERA+) in 16 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, underlying metrics do not love his performance. Chargois has given up a lot of hard contact, has walked too many batters, and has generated enough strikeouts or groundballs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be fair, he has excelled at limiting hard contact and inducing groundballs throughout his career. Chargois has also represented one of the more underrated relievers in baseball over the past few seasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2021, the 33-year-old has produced a 2.73 ERA (156 ERA+) in 135 innings over 138 games. While he has poor walk and strikeout rates during this time, Chargois will provide the Mariners with solid production in mid-leverage situations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">JT Chargois (acquired by Seattle) has a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 IP for Miami this season<\/p>\n<p>His 5.32 FIP is putrid thanks to a low K% and a higher BB%. Seattle will owe him the remainder of his $1.29 million salary this season and can control him via arbitration through 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In three separate trades over the past couple of days, the Mariners <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/07\/26\/ryne-stanek-trade-mets-mariners\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">dealt<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stanery01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryne Stanek<\/a> and cleared his salary while <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/07\/26\/blue-jays-trade-yimi-garcia-mariners\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">also adding<\/a> Chargois and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/garciyi01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yimi Garc\u00eda<\/a>. Though Seattle desperately needs to improve its offense, it never hurts to strengthen your pitching depth during a pennant race.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Will Schomberg<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this deal, Miami will receive a 2023 undrafted free agent who has intrigued this season in Seattle\u2019s system. Split between Low-A and High-A, Schomberg has posted a 2.83 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP with a great 29.2 strikeout rate in 92 1\/3 innings.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Will Schomberg signed with SEA as an undrafted free agent in July 2023. Intriguing arm and has looked solid in 2024. 97 strikeouts for Low-A Modesto in 70.1IP this season.
