These prospects each hold weight and are great additions to Miami. What did the Yankees lose and what did they gain?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York has been hungry in this market to improve the product on the field. The team has been unstable lately, compared to how they rolled through the season early on. The Yankees are clear buyers with a postseason berth in near sight.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primarily an outfielder, Chisholm is a solid addition in the Bronx. The Bahamian-born ex-Marlin is a semi-rental option, with a contract signed through 2024. He is eligible for arbitration in 2025 and set to be a free agent in 2027.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Xy1Kwb3hLzU?si=HiM9m-sjlkpRpBhT\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What Did the Yankees Gain by Trading for Outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a nutshell, the Yankees have acquired an all-around playmaker. Chisholm spins the wheels in all parts of the game. The newly acquired Bronx Bomber brings utility to the club. He\u2019s not only an outfielder, but can fill in at an infield spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has experience at second base and shortstop when not in center field. The fact of the matter is, the Yankees outfield is stacked and there may be little opportunity for Chisholm to see much action out there.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/booneaa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Boone<\/a> wants outfielder Chisholm to fill in <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/jazz-chisholm-bats-fifth-plays-center-in-yankees-debut\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at third base<\/a>. He would not have to utilize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/torregl01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-28_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gleyber Torres<\/a> (who may be <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/07\/28\/gleyber-torres-yankee-future\/\" target=\"_self\">on his way out<\/a>) or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemahdj01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-28_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DJ LeMahieu<\/a> at the hot corner. The Yankees are optimistic that their new acquisition can excel wherever he\u2019s asked to play defensively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>What Does Chisholm Bring to the Club?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chisholm is a playmaker. His running game is aggressive and he does not fear the arm of any catcher. This year alone, he\u2019s swiped 22 bags in 30 attempts. His speedy tendencies lead to extra-base hits and added pressure on the defense and pitcher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His bat is streaky and more on the dependable side. Chisholm Jr has a <a  href=\"https:\/\/baseballsavant.mlb.com\/savant-player\/jazz-chisholm-jr-665862\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">10.7% barrel percentage<\/a>, ranking a 74 value. This season he has 96 hits with 50 RBI, 13 home runs, and 46 runs scored. He\u2019s slashed .249\/.323\/.407 so far on the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chisholm Jr.\u2019s batted ball profile is similar to 2024\u2019s version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=murphse01,murphy011sea,murphy010sea,murphy013sea&amp;search=Sean+Murphy&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-28_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sean Murphy<\/a> of the Atlanta Braves and 2022\u2019s version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mountry01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-28_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Mountcastle<\/a> of the Baltimore Orioles. He has climbed quickly through the ranks and is now protected on the Marlins&#8217; 40-man roster.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ram\u00edrez spent time between Double-A and Triple-A this season. With 90 hits on the year, he drove in 69 runs and mashed 20 home runs. Ram\u00edrez was on the come-up. and the Yankees are giving up a highly projectable hitting catcher with the potential to be a starter.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ram\u00edrez quickly moves into the fourth-ranked spot in the Marlins&#8217; top 30 prospect list.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Infielder Serna Brings Depth to Marlins Farm System<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees signed <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=serna-000jar&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-28_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jared Serna<\/a> in the 2019 international signing period out of Mexico. Last season, Serna proved he wasn\u2019t just a gamble in the signings by displaying good offensive qualities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between Low-A and High-A, Serna recorded 144 hits, 79 RBI, and 19 home runs. His bat is above average with a compact swing and contact prone. He gets the barrel through the zone with a good plane on his launch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serna is a menace on the bases, generating plenty of speed and momentum. He stole 29 bags last year and is currency at 11 this year. His defense is dependable, with the ability to play three spots on the infield.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees lose their 19th-ranked prospect in Serna. However, Miami&#8217;s infield depth ranging from the majors to the next up-and-comers in the minors will delay his promotional time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Abrahan Ram\u00edrez: The Third Wheel in the Deal<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=ramire002abr&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-28_br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abrahan Ram\u00edrez<\/a> was also a product of the international signing period. The Yankees initially signed the youngster out of Venezuela. He plays second base, third base, and left field.
