After suffering a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/04\/10\/koadi-senga-injured-list-transfer\/\" target=\"_self\">capsule strain in his shoulder<\/a> during Spring Training, Senga looked sharp in last night&#8217;s season debut. He finished the night with two earned runs on two hits and a walk over 5 \u2153 innings of work. But on an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rileyau01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Riley<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pop-up, the 31-year-old immediately grabbed his left calf and fell to the ground in pain. He was quickly helped off the field by the Mets training staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Mendoza said Senga has a high-grade calf strain. He said it\u2019s difficult to put a timetable on it. He mentioned 8 or 10 weeks. Mets manager <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/mendoca99.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carlos Mendoza<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> told reporters on Saturday that Senga suffered a \u201chigh grade\u201d calf strain and will likely miss the rest of the regular season. Though, Mendoza did not rule out a potential return for the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senga signed a five-year, $75 million contract with New York in the 2022-23 offseason. He posted a 2.98 ERA over 166 \u2153 innings of work and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2023. Despite high hopes for his return, the Mets will continue their playoff push without Senga. Having lost <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/scottch01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christian Scott<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/07\/23\/mets-christian-scott-injured-list\/\" target=\"_self\">a UCL sprain<\/a> and now Senga, the Mets may acquire another starter at the deadline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a corresponding move Saturday, the Mets optioned right-hander <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/o\/orzeer01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eric Orze<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Triple-A Syracuse.
