A starter for most of his career, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lylesjo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jordan Lyles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was moved to the bullpen after losing his role as the Royals\u2019 fifth starter to right-hander <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/marshal01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alec Marsh<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Lyles made five scoreless relief appearances for Kansas City to start the season before being placed on the restricted list. He was reinstated from the restricted over the weekend before ultimately being released; Lyles has not pitched since April 12th.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Dodgers Sign Jordan Lyles To Minor League Deal<\/h2>\n<p>Whatever personal matter landed Lyles on the restricted list has apparently been resolved. Signing a two-year, $17 million deal with the Royals going into 2023, the 33-year-old finished the year with a 6.28 ERA. Lyles set an MLB record beginning the season 0\u201311, with the Royals losing in each of his first fifteen starts. Leading the MLB in losses, Lyles finished the season as the worst-qualified pitcher.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Lyles does make sense for a team with a big lead and several pitchers with injury concerns as he does post and he\u2019s a reliable innings eater. While right-handers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sheehem01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emmet Sheehan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/maydu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dustin May<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> both underwent season-ending surgeries. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/glasnty01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tyler Glasnow<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2022\/09\/27\/tyler-glasnow-to-return\/\" target=\"_self\">reinstated off the injured list<\/a> yesterday, while\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kershcl01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clayton Kershaw<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is expected to make his season debut on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Already <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/07\/12\/dodgers-major-needs-before-deadline-2024\/\" target=\"_self\">linked to several starters<\/a> ahead of the trade deadline, Los Angeles will be going all-in. With<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a 5.22 career ERA, Lyles will give the Dodgers a bit of non-roster depth. The veteran will likely spend some time at the Dodgers&#8217; facility in Arizona before reporting to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
