Alonso has the size, 6&#8217;3 245lbs, to last through each round.\u00a0 Despite the rule changes this year endurance will always play a part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Of the last ten winners, only two were under 6&#8217;0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/fieldpr01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prince Fielder<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cespeyo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yoenis Cespedes<\/a> are both 5&#8217;11). This <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is one trend that<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> leads me to believe that the 5&#8217;9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=ramirjo01,ramirjo02&amp;search=Jos\u00e9+Ram\u00edrez&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Ramirez<\/a> might not be built for the Derby.\u00a0 Alec Bohm, another long shot to win, has similar power to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bregmal01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Bregman<\/a>.\u00a0 Despite Bohm being taller, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/alex-bregman-hits-16-hrs-in-home-run-derby\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bregman <\/a><\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">wasn&#8217;t able to<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> move out of the first round in two chances.\u00a0 Bohm is fun to watch but I don&#8217;t think he makes it out of the first round either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">MLB All Star break is coming: Know the new Home Run Derby Rules \ud83d\udc47<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 no bracket. 8 compete for T4 scores round 1<br \/>\n\u2022 1st 2 rounds: 3 min OR 40 pitches<br \/>\n\u2022 final round: 2 min OR 27 pitches<\/p>\n<p>Pitching is the deal breaker &amp; Alonzo is going w\/ Jauss again \ud83d\udc40<a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5Lnf7O7YT7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/5Lnf7O7YT7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CC (@KeepBettingCo) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KeepBettingCo\/status\/1810337806872621313?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 8, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">First Half Home Runs DO NOT MATTER<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/guerrvl02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/a> only had 13 first-half home runs last season when he won the Derby.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=sotoju01,soto--004jua&amp;search=Juan+Soto&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Juan Soto<\/a> had 20 home runs in the first half when he won in 2022. Jump to 2017 and Aaron Judge had 30 home runs.\u00a0 What I&#8217;m getting at is that home runs in real major league games do not translate into derby home runs. Ozuna having 26 home runs does not give him an edge over Pete Alonso who only has 19.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Longshots Worth Betting On<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The only two competitors that make a run at the Polar Bear will be <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2019\/06\/02\/gunnar-henderson-2019-mlb-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">Gunnar Henderson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/garciad02.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-15_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adolis Garcia<\/a>.\u00a0 Henderson has the build and the luxury of only being 23 years old. If Alonso slips up early that will open the door for Gunnar to take home the third Derby win for the Baltimore Orioles.\u00a0 Adolis Garcia also has the build, but he also has a home-field advantage.
