As the trade deadline approaches, the Atlanta Braves will be buying, as general manager Alex Anthopoulos always loves to do. With a three-game lead in the National League Wild Card race, Atlanta has several holes to fill before the postseason begins. One thing the Braves absolutely must do is trade for an outfielder (or two), which they are already trying to do.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ken Rosenthal of <\/span>The Athletic<\/span><\/i><\/a> reports that the Braves president of baseball operations is already exploring the market for outfielders. He added that Anthopoulos has been \u201cengaging in preliminary discussions with clubs\u201d in an effort to bolster their outfield. Atlanta brought <\/span>Eddie Rosario<\/a><\/span> back on a minor league deal after he was <\/span>released by the Washington Nationals<\/span><\/a>, but more help could be on the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

With <\/span>Ronald Acu\u00f1a Jr.<\/a><\/span> lost for the season and <\/span>Michael Harris II<\/a><\/span> rehabbing a hamstring strain, Atlanta\u2019s outfield has gotten thin. The Braves have relied on <\/span>Jarred Kelenic<\/a><\/span> in center field, with <\/span>Adam Duvall<\/a><\/span>, <\/span>Ram\u00f3n Laureano<\/a><\/span>, and <\/span>Luke Williams<\/a><\/span> flanking him. But going back to when Acu\u00f1a suffered his season-ending ACL tear, Atlanta outfielders are hitting just .227\/.276\/.374.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hope is that Harris will be able to return from the injured list shortly after the All-Star break. He is really the only outfielder on the Braves roster who has consistently proven himself as an everyday player. Kelenic has been a solid replacement<\/a>, but his track record suggests he might be better suited as a platoon option.<\/span><\/p>\n
