The Yankees have gone just 5-14 since becoming the first team to reach 50 wins on June 14th. Their recent slump has shown that they still have very real flaws that need to be addressed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2023\/12\/06\/juan-soto-trade-yankees\/\" target=\"_self\">Trading<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=sotoju01,soto--004jua&amp;search=Juan+Soto&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Juan Soto<\/a> completely changed the Yankees\u2019 lineup that for years only went as far as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/j\/judgeaa01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Judge<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could carry them. But the rest of the lineup just is not very deep. The lack of depth has been a long-standing problem that has haunted the Bronx Bombers in recent years. Of the 11 hitters with 100 plate appearances, only Judge, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soto<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stantmi03.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giancarlo Stanton<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have an OPS+ above 100. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/06\/23\/giancarlo-stanton-injured-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stanton&#8217;s absence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has only magnified the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from shortstop <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/volpean01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Volpe<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Yankees\u2019 infield has contributed little offensively, and even he has struggled in recent weeks. Before Saturday&#8217;s win, New York had dropped four straight games and 14 of their last 18, scoring just 83 runs in that span. This is more than just a \u201crough patch,\u201d as manager <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/booneaa01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Boone<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> likes to say. The Yankees are in trouble. With a few weeks until the trade deadline, general manager Brian Cashman is reportedly seeking several upgrades.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Yankees Seeking Trade Reinforcements to Stop Spiral<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aside from upgrading the bullpen, the Yankees need to address the inconsistency of the bottom half of the order. New York has plenty of players capable of producing big numbers, but not enough who can do it on a day-to-day basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Upgrade the Infield<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the Yankees are \u201coptimistic\u201d about rookie <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/ricebe01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ben Rice<\/a>\u2019s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributions <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/06\/18\/yankees-promote-ben-rice\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">filling in<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the injured <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rizzoan01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Rizzo<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one area of need is at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/06\/26\/possible-trade-options-at-first-base-for-the-yankees\/\" target=\"_self\">first base<\/a>. Rizzo was struggling before suffering a broken forearm and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemahdj01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DJ LeMahieu<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has batted .175\/.270\/.196 since returning from injury.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assuming the Chicago Cubs decide to sell at the deadline, outfielder and first baseman <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bellico01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cody Bellinger<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/06\/29\/cubs-could-trade-cody-bellinger-yankees\/\" target=\"_self\">perfect fit<\/a>. Batting .274\/.334\/.422 with nine home runs and 37 RBI, Bellinger\u2019s numbers are exactly what the Yankees need. The former MVP would give the Yankees a massive upgrade at first base and could also shift to the outfield. He has two years left on his contract with player opt-out options in each of his next two seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/torregl01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gleyber Torres<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> appears to have re-aggravated a groin injury, the Yankees are reportedly looking to add a second baseman. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/04\/sports\/reds-jonathan-india-angels-luis-rengifo-could-be-yankees-fits\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jon Heyman of the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0New York Post<\/span><\/i><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">called Cincinnati Reds second baseman <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/i\/indiajo01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonathan India<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a good \u201cpositional fit\u201d for the Yankees. Slugging .333\/.419\/.593 over his last seven games, India has been red-hot and is under team control through 2026. For the first two months of the season, the Bronx was home to the best bullpen in baseball. Now they sit slightly above average with a collective 3.69 ERA after giving up 151 runs in June. With closer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/holmecl01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clay Holmes<\/a> and the various relievers that have been acquired in recent weeks struggling, the Yankees are actively seeking reinforcements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/30\/sports\/mets-season-hinges-on-david-stearns-acing-first-trade-deadline-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jon Heyman reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Marlins closer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/scottta01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tanner Scott<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is one of the Yankees&#8217; top trade targets. Scott has a 1.46 ERA with 12 saves and 41 strikeouts over 36 appearances for Miami this season. Pairing the power lefty with Holmes as a lethal late-inning duo would set the bullpen up nicely going into October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York could benefit from more swing-and-miss in the bullpen, making Chicago White Sox starter-turned-closer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kopecmi01.shtml?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-07-06_br\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Kopech<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an intriguing candidate. His numbers are not nearly as pretty as Scott\u2019s are, but he strikes batters out at a 30.7% rate. The 28-year-old throws a 99 mph four-seamer and 86 mph slider mix combining for a 31.1 whiff percentage. Kopech is only making $3 million this season, and unlike Scott, the Chicago right-hander comes with another year of control.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>World Series Outlook<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees need help just about everywhere to escape their downward spiral.
