Baltimore leads the majors in home runs (123) and has homered in every game since June 1st. Yet, the Orioles have the fifth-best odds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fangraphs.com\/standings\/playoff-odds\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to FanGraphs<\/a>, to bring a World Series trophy back to Baltimore. Something this young Orioles squad has been working towards since their historic, division-winning 101-win season last year.<\/p>\n<h3>Baltimore Orioles Becoming World Series Contenders In 2024<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/burneco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corbin Burnes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been a godsend for an Orioles rotation that desperately needed an ace. The former Cy Young winner has made 15 starts with an 8-2 record and a league-leading 2.14 ERA. He\u2019s been brilliant against the AL East, sporting an ERA of 1.13 and a 4-1 record in six appearances. The 29-year-old slated for free agency after this season has provided instant validation for his bold offseason acquisition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A World Series championship is well in reach for the Orioles in 2024, but they need some help, especially if they want to keep their ace long-term.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Acquire A No. 2 Starter<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After trading for Burnes, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/03\/22\/orioles-starting-rotation-opening-day\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Orioles&#8217; rotation<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>this season was expected to be one of the best in the majors. Which it has been. Their 3.21 ERA ranks third in the majors and second in the American League. But with both Bradish and Means out for the season\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rodrigr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grayson Rodriguez <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kremede01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dean Kremer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> spending time on the injured list, Baltimore needs a No. 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baltimore has been linked to several pitchers ahead of the deadline, but left-handers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/luzarje01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jes\u00fas Luzardo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crochga01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Garrett Crochet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stand out. Luzardo has ace potential, while Crochet has been an ace all season, and both carry extra years of club control. But it\u2019s worth noting that the Marlins southpaw has spent time on the injured list twice already this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kremer should return in a few weeks, adding a much-needed arm back to the rotation, but Baltimore needs all of the depth they can get. Whether that means trading for a potential ace or adding another solid middle rotation arm capable of eating innings.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Boost The Bullpen<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baltimore\u2019s depth has run thin in the \u2018pen with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/couloda01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Danny Coulombe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out until September and both <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cole Irvin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/suareal01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Albert Su\u00e1rez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> forced into starting roles. The future Hall of Famer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kimbrcr01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Craig Kimbrel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has replaced the injured <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bautife01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">F\u00e9lix Bautista<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who was Mr. Automatic in save situations last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a perfect world, the Orioles would add two new arms to the bullpen capable of shutting down late-inning situations. The Orioles have recently been linked to White Sox right-hander <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kopecmi01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Kopech<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Marlins left-hander <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/scottta01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanner Scott<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both would be incredible fits capable of coming in as a set-up reliever or a second closer for the Orioles.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Lock Down The Outfield<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mullice01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cedric Mullins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is having a tough season, but the longtime Orioles center fielder may finally be breaking through. The 29-year-old has heated up slugging .321\/.345\/.500 with a homer and three RBI in the last seven games. Still, Baltimore is said to be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/06\/18\/baltimore-orioles-center-field-upgrade\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the market<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a right-handed-hitting outfielder given most of their depth is left-handed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago is seeking a hefty trade package for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/roberlu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luis Robert Jr.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which the Orioles brass likely will not give up. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/baderha01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harrison Bader<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is another Gold Glove center fielder that would be a solid option if the Mets decide to sell. If <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cowseco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colton Cowser<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were to play more center, a veteran corner outfielder like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/phamth01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tommy Pham<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> could also be a possibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Baltimore&#8217;s Plan At The Deadline<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the trade deadline a little over a month away, general manager Mike Elias isn&#8217;t going to make any quick decisions. Baltimore has one of baseball\u2019s best and deepest farm systems and will be the rare buying team that can control the market. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elias is instead &#8220;looking at the whole picture&#8221; and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plans to let the next few weeks play out to see which teams are selling and what they&#8217;re asking for before making any deadline decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Main Photo Credits: <em>Mark J.
