Star shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/correca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Correa<\/a><\/strong> went down with a torn ligament in his left thumb. While playing the Seattle Mariners on Monday, Correa swung through a pitch and was clearly in discomfort. After manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hincha.01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A.J. Hinch<\/a><\/strong> and head trainer Jeremiah Randall came out to examine the 22-year-old star shortstop, Correa exited the game in the fourth inning.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Carlos Correa is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s 2nd on the Astros in WAR (4.8) and has been the best offensive SS this season. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2F28EUwU2W\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/2F28EUwU2W<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ESPN Stats &amp; Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ESPNStatsInfo\/status\/887407768411484161\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 18, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Houston Loses Carlos Correa to Thumb Injury<\/h2>\n<p>Correa later explained that he reaggravated the same injury he suffered after sliding into home plate while playing the Atlanta Braves on July 4. Correa thought the All-Star break would allow him to recover from the original injury, so he decided to play through the pain. Unfortunately, Correa&#8217;s decision to play through his prior injury could be why he exited with a even worse injury on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Carlos Correa will likely be out \u00a0for 6-8 weeks, so we will expect his return in September. \u00a0 Correa left Monday&#8217;s game hitting .326, with 20 home runs and 67 RBI. GM Jeff Luhnow commented that losing a player of Corea&#8217;s caliber is a big blow to the team, but he&#8217;ll be back in September, which will be in time for the Astros stretch run.
