Luzardo has heard his name bounced around the rumor mill as a possible trade candidate for the past year. Yet, the 26-year-old left-hander takes the mound in a Marlins uniform every fifth day. The Marlins are sitting at the bottom of the National League East after last year&#8217;s postseason appearance. As a result, Luzardo is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/05\/30\/luzardo-likely-to-be-traded\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expected to be moved<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ahead of this year&#8217;s trade deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Divisional Rivals Vying For Marlins Left-Hander<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fansided.com\/posts\/mlb-trade-rumors-buyers-sellers-brewers-padres-braves-angels-marlins\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, three teams that rival executives believe are fits for the left-hander are the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coming off two back-to-back strong seasons for Miami, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/luzarje01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jes\u00fas Luzardo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has had a dismal start to his 2024 campaign. Luzardo has pitched to a 5.30 ERA across 56 innings, striking batters out less often than usual. He has also allowed far more fly balls than he has over the past two years. However, he does have a more promising 3.87 FIP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, the 26-year-old left-hander has the ceiling of an ace and happens to be signed through 2026. Luzardo would net the Marlins a big package if they were to trade him.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>AL East Rivals &#8220;Possible Fits&#8221; for Jes\u00fas Luzardo<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two AL East rivals stand out among the teams that rival executives believe are a good fit for Luzardo. Entering play on Saturday, New York (45-20) sits 3.5 games ahead of Baltimore (40-22) in the division.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>New York Yankees<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yankees&#8217; rotation has been dominant through the season&#8217;s first two months despite being without ace Gerrit Cole. Their 2.76 ERA leads the American League and is the second-best<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0starting ERA in the majors. However, right-hander <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/schmicl01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clarke Schmidt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/05\/31\/yankees-clarke-schmidt-injured-list\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after being placed on the injured list with a lat strain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until now, the Yankees\u2019 rotation has remained relatively healthy in the absence of their injured ace with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cortene01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nestor Cort\u00e9s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/stromma01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marcus Stroman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rodonca01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carlos Rod\u00f3n<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gillu01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luis Gil<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Schmidt having taken all but one start. While Gerrit Cole could return as soon as next month, injuries have been problematic for the Yankees in recent years. A move for Luzardo would give New York an extra layer of pitching depth going into the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trade Proposal:\u00a0<\/strong>Yankees receive LHP Jes\u00fas Luzardo, Marlins receive SS Roderick Arias (MLB No. 82, Yankees No. 3), OF Everson Pereira (Yankees No. 6)<\/p>\n<h3>Baltimore Orioles<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baltimore has already pulled off one <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/02\/01\/corbin-burnes-traded-orioles\/\" target=\"_self\">blockbuster trade,<\/a> acquiring <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/burneco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corbin Burnes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Milwaukee Brewers in February. The Orioles had been previously linked to Luzardo in the offseason, but Baltimore felt the Marlins were asking too much. Times have changed for the reigning AL East champions. Baltimore is currently down two starters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kremede01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dean Kremer<\/a>\u00a0(triceps) and John Means,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0who underwent his second Tommy John surgery. While Kremer is expected to return this season, Means will be sidelined for at least the next 14-18 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Orioles have seen great production from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/i\/irvinco01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cole Irvin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/suareal01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Albert Su\u00e1rez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who took over for the two injured starters. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bradiky01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kyle Bradish<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has picked up where he left off last season since he <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/04\/28\/orioles-kyle-bradish-season-debut\/\" target=\"_self\">returned from a UCL sprain<\/a> in May. Injuries aside, the Orioles rotation has the second-best ERA in the American League at 3.17.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adding another top-tier arm like Luzardo would bolster the Orioles quest to bring the World Series back to Baltimore. But with his extra year of control, Luzardo could serve as a replacement if Burnes leaves in free agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Trade Proposal:\u00a0<\/strong>Orioles receive LHP Jes\u00fas Luzardo, Marlins receive 3B\/1B Coby Mayo (MLB No. 29, Orioles No. 3), OF Heston Kjerstad (MLB No. 31, Orioles No. 4)<\/p>\n<h3>Sources Call Jes\u00fas Luzardo This Year&#8217;s &#8220;Most Likely&#8221; Trade Candidate<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Jes\u00fas Luzardo is having a down year, insiders across the league are still very high on Miami&#8217;s young left-hander.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A change of scenery and a chance to play on a contending team could help Luzardo turn his season around.
