They have no offense and they have a defense like a sieve. Nothing seems to be working. Defeat is often snatched from the jaws of victory and they can’t get a win. It’s been a historically rough start for the White Sox and it looks as if there is no end in sight. The team is undergoing constant roster movement to try to get a good formula on the field to help win games. The Sox made another move this week, bringing up third baseman Danny Mendick from the minors. Mendick was explosive in the minor leagues, hitting home runs in several consecutive games for Triple-A Charlotte, so the White Sox decided to bring him up and have him try his luck in the majors.

“You can’t stop him, you can only hope to contain him.”

4⃣ straight days with a HOMER for Danny Mendick! pic.twitter.com/eL9am2kz0w

— Charlotte Knights (@KnightsBaseball) April 20, 2024

Danny Mendick Making Impact on White Sox Since Call-Up

Chicago is going to hope that Mendick has similar success against major league pitchers. So far, through three games played, Mendick has been to the plate 13 times and has four hits, no RBI, and a stolen base. His batting average is currently .235, which certainly shows room for improvement. Right now though, if you looked at him statistically, he’d be one of the better players on offense.

As long as Mendick can hit, he’s going to have a spot on the current roster. He’s already had a decent start and if he keeps it up, he’ll be a mainstay on the team. That’s at least until Yoan Moncada, who is out with an adductor injury, comes back. Mendick might still stick around even when Moncada comes back healthy. Should Mendick falter, however, the White Sox might end up sending him back down and keep trying to find some rhythm on offense.

Before Mendick

The White Sox had previously had Lenyn Sosa at the third base spot following Moncada’s injury, and it didn’t work out. As part of the move to bring Mendick up, the White Sox sent Sosa back to the minors to continue to develop. It was thought that Sosa would be a strong performer but that wasn’t meant to be this time. He still has certain things, especially at the plate, that he needs to work on. Hopefully, he will get things figured out in the minors and make a successful comeback to the majors.

Sosa had a nice game in the minors earlier this week. He is promising but just can’t seem to keep up at the major league level yet. If he can ever put things together, he’s a threat to be a solid if not spectacular player. But he has work to do. He must be much more consistent than he has been.

Other Moves

In order to bring Mendick up to the majors, the White Sox designated Zach Remillard for assignment. They also sent Nick Nastrini down to the minors. They brought back right-hand pitcher John Brebbia from the 15-day injured list.

The White Sox don’t have many more moves they can make. They have seemingly made a lot of moves to try to fix what’s been broken. However, they are running out of players and ways to make things better. Could calling up Mendick get them going in the right direction? It might eventually, but as of now this team is struggling and it doesn’t appear as if things will get much better.

Photo Credit: © Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox need all the help that they can get, that much is true.
