This was the first time Snell has allowed nine hits in a game since a June 2021 start against the Colorado Rockies. The 31-year-old southpaw was the top free-agent pitcher on the market before signing with San Francisco midway through spring training. He drew <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/03\/17\/astros-serious-pursuit-blake-snell\/\" target=\"_self\">serious interest<\/a> from postseason contenders<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who were ultimately hesitant to pay his high asking price.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Blake Snell Roughed Up in Third Start with San Francisco<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snell has yet to look comfortable in a Giants uniform since signing his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/baseball\/2024\/03\/18\/blake-snell-new-home-giants\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two-year, $62-million contract<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with San Francisco. The veteran left-hander got a late start to spring training and never took the mound for a game in camp. He spent a few weeks building up his arm strength in extended spring training before officially joining the Giants rotation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snell looked rusty in his Giants debut, giving up three runs over three innings against the Washington Nationals on April 8th. He lasted just four innings against his original team, the Tampa Bay Rays, in his second start, allowing seven runs for the first time in three years. Snell struggled with his command against Tampa Bay, saying after the game, &#8220;I just got to get in the zone, attack, and I&#8217;ll be fine.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite being notorious for his slow starts, Snell\u2019s current struggles appear to stem from his quick ramp-up and shortened spring. He threw multiple tune-up games simulating spring training, saying while his quick ramp-up has impacted his command, it\u2019s \u201cno excuse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Somewhere, there is a disconnect. Giants manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/managers\/melvibo01.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Melvin<\/a> said he thought Snell looked fatigued after Friday\u2019s loss to the Diamondbacks, but Snell disagreed. He believes his struggles boil down to adjusting to a new team and understanding how San Francisco likes to attack hitters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have to get used to that and add what I like,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot going on. We\u2019ll figure it out. We\u2019ve been doing that a lot more lately. We\u2019ll get there. I have no doubt.
