In his first professional season, Chourio climbed the minor league ladder from Single-A to Double-A before his 18th birthday. Last season, Chourio became the fifth teenager in minor league history to join the 20-40 club and the first since Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2017. Chourio has the ability to drive the ball anywhere on the field, as evidenced by his nine home runs to the opposite side in 2023. Scouts believed he had five-tool potential coming out of the draft, and he quickly ascended to the Rangers’ lineup. The Rangers called up Carter in September after a .288/.413/.450 campaign over three minor league levels. Nicknamed “Full Count Carter”, Evan is disciplined at the plate and has the unique ability to recognize balls and strikes. Carter was a jolt of energy for the Rangers after his September call-up. He dazzled on both offense and defense during the postseason and helped the Rangers win their first World Series. Evan earned his spot on the prospect lineup not just for his bat but for his stellar defense. He spent the bulk of his career in center field with a .988 FPCT% before moving to left with the Rangers. Carter has the speed and the awareness to track balls and play the gaps. He also has the arm strength to play all three positions, which will serve him well in the Rangers’ lineup.

OF Heston Kjerstad (#32 MLB Prospect), Baltimore Orioles

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 45 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55

Heston Kjerstad was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles second overall in 2021 after an impressive collegiate career at Arkansas. Kjerstad earned several SEC honors with Arkansas and helped the Razorbacks to the College World Series in 2018. After signing with the Orioles, Heston developed myocarditis, forcing him to miss the entire 2021 season. It didn’t take long for the young outfielder to get back on track, winning the Arizona Fall League MVP in 2022. He is aggressive in the box and makes hard contact with the capability to drive the ball across both sides of the field. Kjerstad racked up 58 extra-base hits for a .303 average between Double-A and Triple-A last year. Kjerstad is an athletic outfielder with good instincts and an above-average arm. Primarily a right fielder, Kjerstad drew 17 starts in left last season. Heston made his big league debut in September and should have a larger role with the Orioles in 2024.

Looking Ahead

The 2024 All-Prospect team is starting to come together.
