Despite their unlucky injuries, the Jays have received some much needed <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/2017\/05\/07\/blue-jays-smoak-and-pillar-shine\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">support<\/a> from players like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smoakju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Smoak<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pillake01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Pillar<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Blue Jays Health will Determine June Success<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s imperative that the Jays stay healthy in June. The returns of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/donaljo02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Donaldson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tulowtr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Troy Tulowitzki<\/a><\/strong>, combined with the upcoming returns of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/pearcst01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Pearce<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/liriafr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Francisco Liriano<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanchaa01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aaron Sanchez<\/a><\/strong>, will provide a jolt to the Jays lineup. The Blue Jays health will determine how June plays out and their ability to keep pace in the division.<\/p>\n<h3>Crowded DL<\/h3>\n<p>A veteran team like the Blue Jays will always be prone to injuries, but nobody expected them to go through what they did\u00a0in April and May. The 2015 AL MVP, Donaldson, missed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/gamelog\/_\/id\/29563\/josh-donaldson\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">38 games<\/a> with a strained right calf, the five-time All-Star Tulowitzki missed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/gamelog\/_\/id\/28567\/troy-tulowitzki\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">31 games <\/a>with a strained right hamstring, four-time All-Star <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/martiru01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Martin<\/a><\/strong> missed 12 games with nerve irritation, and their star pitcher, Sanchez, is back on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/toronto-blue-jays-team-injuries?season=2017\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DL<\/a>, along with Pearce and Liriano.\u00a0Liriano is slated to make his <a href=\"http:\/\/toronto.bluejays.mlb.com\/news\/probable_pitchers\/index.jsp?c_id=tor\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">return<\/a>\u00a0on Friday night against the Yankees at the Rogers Center, giving <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gibbojo02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Gibbons<\/a><\/strong> another starter back.<\/p>\n<p>Veterans aren&#8217;t the only ones landing on the DL for the Jays however, as rookie call up <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/alforan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Alford<\/a><\/strong> was placed on the 10-day DL last Wednesday with a fracture in his left wrist. He&#8217;s slated to be out for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/recent\/mlb\/7161\/anthony-alford\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">4-6 weeks<\/a>. The Jays depleted roster led to Gibbons fielding teams this season that were much weaker than he would have wanted. The Jays will need their supporting cast to help keep that momentum as they continue to get players back. The Jays got the left side of their infield back on May 26 against the Texas Rangers, when Donaldson and Tulowitzki both made their returns, which was a major boost to the Jays lineup both offensively and defensively.<\/p>\n<p>The Jays went 18-10 in May, and should be in line for a strong June if they can continue that momentum and stay healthy. Sanchez will be the only starter on the DL for the Jays once Liriano returns\u00a0on Friday, meaning the Jays will have their entire rotation back and (relatively) healthy. Compare that to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/teams\/injuries\/mlb\/sea\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Mariners<\/a>, who have <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/i\/iwakuhi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hisashi Iwakuma<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/w\/weberry01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Weber<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hernafe02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Felix Hernandez<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smylydr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Smyly<\/a><\/strong> on the DL, and it really shows how fortunate the Jays are.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jays will kick off June on Thursday night against the New York Yankees at the Rogers Center.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/estrama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marco Estrada<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will get the start for the Jays against <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sabatc.01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CC Sabathia<\/a><\/strong>. Estrada is 4-2 with a 3.15 ERA this season, and has 78 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched.
