But he last suited up professionally with the Atlanta Braves Triple-A affiliate in 2022. Although he signed a minor-league deal with the Kansas City Royals before the 2023 season, he didn’t play in any games.

Goins was an outstanding second baseman, playing 448 games with Toronto from 2013 to 2017. A career hitter of .228/.278/.333, Goins poured his heart out in a heartfelt tweet about his love for the game and all those people who helped him in his career. Goins was happy to be a Blue Jay, and he took the time to thank the fans for giving him an opportunity on social media, which was gratifying.

What’s Next for Goins?

We already know that former Blue Jay Edwin Encarnacion made his way into rejoining the Jays, and we saw him in the dugout this season. The Blue Jays need help finding the proper management and coaching, and adding Goins as a third base coach is a plausible option. Hiring people with experience and expertise is essential, and Goins would be the perfect fit. Adding him to this role is something that they should consider. Goins was also a coach for the Roy this past year in the minors. He would be able to transition well into this role.

Congratulations Goins!

Now that Goins has officially announced his retirement from baseball, it will be interesting to see what he will follow in his career. Goins was, without question, a player who was underrated for Toronto. He joins some of the greats who have retired from baseball and who were former Blue Jays players. Let’s hope we have yet to see the last of Goins and that he can join the Jays organization in some way, shape, or form. Congratulations to Ryan on a successful baseball career and for making both Jays fans and the Jays themselves proud. His defensive skills will consistently be recognized and accounted for when reflecting on the Blue Jays success.

Embed from Getty Images

Former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ryan Goins announced his retirement from baseball.
