The Cubs have a lot of money to spend this coming offseason, and they’ll look to start investing in high profile players once again. After the Chicago Cubs<\/a> victory over Jacob deGrom and the\u00a0New York Mets<\/a> earlier this month, NBC Sports Chicago\u2019s David Kaplan<\/a>\u00a0dropped a mini bomb of an announcement.<\/p>\n

“Heard something interesting today. Trea Turner? Definitely interested in the Cubs. Definitely. And the Cubs? Mutually interested in Trea Turner. And guess who else is interested in the Cubs? Carlos Rodon. Yes. Loved pitching in Chicago. Knows that the Cubs are a team with some players coming out of the system, and they need a top of the rotation arm. But I’m just telling you: This team is going to spend, I’m told. For sure. And those are two of the guys they’re targeting.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wow! There you have it Cubs fans, not just good news, some incredible news at last! Alas, the days of selling are in the past, and the days of buying have come to the North Side yet again.<\/p>\n

What Turner Could Bring to Chicago<\/h2>\n

The funny thing is, shortstop is no where close to a position of need for the North Side. Current Cubs shortstop Nico Hoerner has been having a breakout year. However, that won’t stop the Cubs from going after the best players available, regardless of their position. It’s also worth mentioning that Turner and Hoerner can both play multiple positions as well. Both players have made several appearances at second base and in center field. If Turner were to sign with the Cubs, it’s more than likely that Hoerner will slide over to second base. Current second baseman Nick Madrigal could fill the role of designated hitter, due to his less than stellar defensive abilities. The Cubs could also look to use Madrigal as a trade chip. This would happen if they decide to retain Franmil Reyes.<\/p>\n

Turner is currently putting together another spectacular season for the\u00a0Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>, as he has 20 home runs, 97 RBI, 25 stolen bases, and a .304\/.349\/.491 slash line.<\/p>\n

A Familiar Face To Chicago<\/h2>\n

Carlos Rodon was once the #3 overall pick for the\u00a0Chicago White Sox<\/a>. With them he would eventually become an All-Star. As a pitcher for the South Side, Rodon achieved a record of 42-38 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 710 strikeouts in 121 appearances. The south paw has not lost a step in his lone season with the\u00a0San Francisco Giants<\/a>. He is pitching with a 13-8 record to go along with a 2.84 ERA and 1.038 WHIP. He also leads the National League with 220 strikeouts.<\/p>\n

If he were to return to the Windy City, he would no doubt become the ace of their rotation. The projected rotation could be: Carlos Rodon, Marcus Stroman, Justin Steele, Kyle Hendricks, with the last slot being given to a number of options. The Cubs could assign it to young arms Keegan Thompson or Caleb Killian, or they could look to sign yet another arm in free agency.<\/p>\n
