PHOENIX, Jul. 26 \u2014 The Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> took advantage of nearly every base runner they had, leaving only three of the ten on base as they defeated the San Francisco Giants<\/a>, 7\u20133, Tuesday night at Chase Field.<\/p>\n The Diamondbacks struck first, doing so in the bottom of the second off Carlos Rodon. First baseman Christian Walker drew a leadoff walk. Second baseman Buddy Kennedy struck out before right fielder Jake McCarthy hit a grounder to second. Giants second baseman Wilmer Flores threw to second in time to force Walker. Giants shortstop Thairo Estrada, leaping to avoid being wiped out by a hard yet legal slide, could not get the hustling McCarthy at first. Diamondbacks third baseman Sergio Alcantara rewarded his teammates\u2019 hustle by smacking a homer to the left-field bleachers. It was a deep fly that hit a fan in the first row and rebounded onto the field, giving the Diamondbacks a 2\u20130 lead after replay review.<\/p>\n Manager Torey Lovullo praised every aspect of the play. \u201cIt was the slide by Walker (and) the hustle by Jake that beat the throw that would have gotten them out of the inning. (Jake) was being a little bit of a distraction to Rodon. I think he clearly was distracted in a couple situations while picking off, and I think Jake got a really good break on a ball. He challenged Rodon, and Rodon made a mistake to Alcantara. That’s what happens, and Serge took advantage of it.
