The MLB Hot Stove is most certainly ablaze this offseason. The Texas Rangers<\/a> are among the teams that are currently holding the matchbook. To say that this team is on a mission is an understatement. The Rangers have already made deals with several free agents over the past couple of weeks. Their most recent signing came on Sunday evening. Their latest\u00a0acquisition<\/a> is free-agent right-hander Jon Gray. The deal is said to be worth $56 million over four years. While the Rangers have been focusing on obtaining offense for their lineup, this signing is a clear indication that they haven’t forgotten about pitching<\/p>\n

\u00a0Mile High Potential<\/h2>\n

Gray spent the past seven seasons in a Colorado Rockies<\/a> uniform. In that time, he has shown flashes of brilliance, but he hasn’t been able to put together a long stretch of consistency. From 2015-21, he has posted a bloated earned run average of 4.59 (107 ERA+). In those seven years, he made 152 appearances (151 starts). This is often the case in baseball. You have good years, and you have bad years. In Gray’s case, it appears to be more of the same. The talent, however, is there.<\/p>\n

Good Arm<\/h2>\n

The Texas Rangers are investing a good amount of trust and money into Gray. It doesn’t sound like a lot in baseball circles, but $56 million is a lot. Gray has a good arm, and he has proven that he can pitch in the majors. Everybody is looking for pitching, and the Rangers are no different. Gray will be joining a starting rotation tentatively made up of Dane Dunning, A.J. Alexy, Taylor Hearn, and Spencer Howard. It is shaping up to be a very interesting season. There is, however, plenty more of the offseason ahead for the Rangers. It doesn’t look like they are anywhere close to finished. They still have more shopping to do.<\/p>\n
