He has racked up accolade after accolade and now can add another one to his list.

Mr. 3000

On Sunday afternoon, September 12, 2021, Max Scherzer became the 19th member of the famed 3000 Strikeout Club, doing so against the San Diego Padres. It came in the fifth inning, with Eric Hosmer as the victim. Scherzer joins pitchers like Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and Steve Carlton in the elite club. He also is the second active pitcher in Major League Baseball to have accomplished the feat, joining Justin Verlander, who joined the club in September of 2019. While Verlander accomplished his feat in the AL, Scherzer accomplished his in the NL.

Mr. Rock Solid

Scherzer began his career in Arizona and bounced to Detroit before landing in Washington. Since joining the Nats, he has been the most reliable, rock-solid pitcher in the league. He also achieved a 20-strikeout game and won his second and third Cy Young Awards as a member of the Nationals. He won his first Cy Young Award in 2013 as a member of the Detroit Tigers.

This year has been different for Scherzer though, as he was traded from his longtime home in DC to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since joining the Dodgers, he has been a force to be reckoned with, posting a sub-1.75 era and giving the Dodgers essentially another ace.

Max Scherzer is Cooperstown-Bound

There is no doubt that Max Scherzer will end up in Cooperstown when his career is all said and done. At this point, Mad Max is simply racking up extra accolades to go on his Hall of Fame placard. Sunday afternoon will be another feather in his cap and a happy moment to look back on as he joins elite company in baseball’s annals of history.

When it is all said and done, we will be able to look back and say we witnessed one of the best pitchers in baseball history blossom into a dominant superstar. Until then, try to watch Max Scherzer deal on a mound near you.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

Players mentioned:

Max Scherzer, Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton, Justin Verlander, Eric Hosmer

Max Scherzer Reaches 3000th Strikeout Max Scherzer has been one of the most dominant pitchers of the 2010s.
