ARLINGTON, Texas, September 1 – On Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Rangers<\/a> fell short of the ever-elusive sweep. They won the first two games of their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies<\/a>. They came up short in the finale, however. The final score on Wednesday was 9-5. Now they begin a nine-game road trip. They will face the Los Angeles Angels<\/a>, Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>, and the Chicago White Sox<\/a> in that stretch. In the meantime, however, here is a recap of Wednesday’s finale.<\/p>\n Fans were looking forward to seeing right-hander Kohei Arihara’s return to the mound in this one. It was his first appearance off the IL since May 8th. He pitched 3.1 innings in this one. He gave up one earned run on three hits. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out three. Rangers’ manager Chris Woodward<\/a> pulled him early as a precaution. He hasn’t pitched in nearly four months, so it is best to stretch him out gradually. All in all, Wednesday was a good first step.<\/p>\n The Rangers did all of their scoring in the bottom of the second inning, Nathaniel Lowe scored on a single by Yohel Pozo to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Leody Taveras drove in Pozo and Charlie Culberson to make it 3-0. Then it was Isiah Kiner-Falefa who drove in the last two runs for the Rangers. He hit a single to right field that brought in Jose Trevino, who was on third, and Taveras from second. Both the Rangers, and their fans thought this lead would hold, but the Rockies had other ideas.<\/p>\n The Rockies got their offense rolling in the top of the fourth inning. Brendan Rodgers cut the lead to four with a solo home run off Arihara, and that would signal the end of the right-hander’s day. In the same inning, Charlie Blackmon scored on a single hit by Ryan McMahon. This would make it 5-2. Then in the top of the fifth, a wild pitch by Demarcus Evans gave Colorado their third run on the afternoon. Their fourth run occurred on a force out grounded into by Blackmon. This would score Connor Joe.<\/p>\n Fast forward all the way to the top of the ninth inning. Rogers got another hit. It was a double that brought home Elias Diaz and Garrett Hampson, making it 6-5 in favor of Colorado. Then Trevor Story reached base on a fielder’s choice. This would score Rogers and Blackmon. There was also a throwing error by Culberson at third, that allowed Story to get to third. Then there was another error by Lowe at first base that allowed Story to score the ninth and final run.
