ARLINGTON, Texas, August 27 – The Texas Rangers<\/a> returned home to Globe Life Field from a six-game road trip on Friday. It was on this night that they started a three-game set against the Houston Astros<\/a>. Unfortunately for Rangers fans, the home nine were unsuccessful in the series opener as they fell short by a final score of 5-4. Here is a look at Friday night’s contest.<\/p>\n The evening wasn’t a total bust for Rangers fans, however. They got to see the Major League debut of right-hander Glenn Otto. The Houston native showed a great deal of poise on the mound in his first career start. He threw five innings, giving up only two hits. He didn’t walk anyone, and he struck out seven batters. Of the 73 pitches that he threw, 57 were for strikes. Rangers’ manager Chris Woodward<\/a> had to be pleased with Otto’s effort. It is unclear at this point if Otto will get another start down the road, but he definitely earned it.<\/p>\n For a while, it looked like the Rangers would prevail in this one. It just didn’t fall their way, however. Things stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Nathaniel Lowe scored on a single hit by Jason Martin. Their next run came on a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was hit by Andy Ibanez. It was his sixth of the year. Then in the bottom of the sixth, Nick Solak crossed the plate on a double by Yohel Pozo. Then Jose Trevino doubled to left field. That would bring home Pozo. The Rangers’ offense would end there.<\/p>\n In the top of the seventh, Rangers’ lefty Brett Martin came in. All five of Houston’s runs came in this inning. Martin gave up a two-run double to Jake Meyers. That drove in Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman. Then Michael Brantley stepped to the plate. He singled to centerfield. That scored Meyers and Kyle Tucker. Catcher Martin Maldonado scored Houston’s final run of the evening. It came on a ground ball hit by Yuli Gurriel. The Rangers hope to bounce back quickly.
