The Colorado Rockies<\/a> have reacquire pitcher Ashton Goudeau from the Cincinnati Reds<\/a> in exchange for cash considerations. Goudeau was originally claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a> in November, but he then spent several months being selected by various other teams off waivers until he finally ended up with the Reds. C. Trent Rosecrans of the Athletic broke the news Thursday morning along with several other small internal moves.<\/p>\n

The Rockies are getting the band back together!<\/p>\n

The Reds traded RHP Ashton Goudeau to the Rockies for cash. Goudeau was DFA\u2019d Wednesday and returns to Colorado.<\/p>\n

Rockies Reacquire Ashton Goudeau<\/h2>\n

Goudeau has had a rough couple of seasons since he appeared in the Rockies top 30 prospect list before 2020. He has pitched just 17.1\/3 innings in two seasons with a 5.71 ERA, 7.44 FIP, and only seven strikeouts compared to 11 walks. His numbers were moderately better in Cincinnati than they were in Colorado, but it’s nothing notable. The good thing is that he should have plenty left in his arm for the final months of 2021. Goudeau also still has an acceptable velocity on his fastball around 92 MPH that teams like to see. The main question is if he can get enough innings to find a rhythm.<\/p>\n

What This Means<\/h3>\n

There is an obvious spot in the Rockies’ bullpen for Goudeau now that Mychal Givens is gone<\/a>. There is also a very real chance that at least one other reliever could be on the move as well that could create innings for the former 27th-round pick. Goudeau might also start at some point if Jon Gray is also traded.<\/p>\n

It seems as though acting general manager Bill Schmidt is slowly undoing several of Jeff Bridich’s moves. He traded Givens and got Case Williams back from Cincy. Williams had been included in the Jeff Hoffman-Robert Stephenson trade<\/a>. Schmidt won’t be able to bring back Nolan Arenado, but he can do his best to reacquire everyone else that was sold under previous management.<\/p>\n
