He will be their new play-by-play announcer, replacing longtime voice Len Kasper. Kasper decided to leave the network and join the Chicago White Sox radio broadcast on ESPN. Kasper’s tenure on the Northside came to an end after 16 consecutive seasons. His calls will be greatly missed by all Cubs fans alike, but Sciambi is a great choice to fill the role.

Sciambi will be joining color analyst Jim Deshaies in the booth. After the news was announced, Deshaies announced on his Twitter the following.

Great hire! Sciambi was talking to the duo during the game and it was comedic gold. Not to mention, he called games with manager David Ross at ESPN, and they’re very good friends. Jon Sciambi already has some good chemistry with the current team, which should make for some quality interviews and interactions throughout the season.

More on Jon Sciambi

Jon Sciambi is one of the most respected broadcasters in the industry. Prior to joining ESPN, he was an announcer for both the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins. He has had a prominent role in MLB broadcasting since 1997, through radio and television. Recently, he has been featured on ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball telecasts and their Sunday Night Baseball radio broadcasts. In addition, Sciambi has called college basketball for the network.

It appears he will continue to work for ESPN, while being apart of the Marquee Sports Network team. According to Patrick Mooney, Sciambi will work around 130 Cubs games this upcoming season.

In a statement released earlier, Jon Sciambi expressed his excitement. Sciambi stated, “Having the opportunity to come to Wrigley Field and call games for the Chicago Cubs every day is surreal. Chicago is one of the best cities and Wrigley is the best ballpark out there.” The admiration and excitement is clear on both sides. This was a great addition by the Marquee Sports Network. Now the Chicago Cubs primary focus should be the product on the field.

Main Image:
Embed from Getty Images

Cubs Hire Jon Sciambi as TV Announcer Monday, the Chicago Cubs announced that they hired Jon Sciambi.
