Over that span, he put up a 2.74 ERA with a 0.913 WHIP and a 12.1 K/9 rate. In addition, he recorded a total of eight saves. After making his debut in April of 2015, Iglesias has pitched at the big league level since. In that sample, he has a total of 106 saves and a 3.15 ERA over 411 and two-thirds innings of work.

Iglesias is under control for one more season and is in his final year of arbitration.

For an Angels team that needed to bolster their bullpen in a significant way, Iglesias helps the team do just that. Furthermore, he will provide the Angels with some stability in the closer role. As a unit, the Angels bullpen finished the 2020 season with a 4.63 ERA which ranked 21st in baseball.

In addition to Raisel Iglesias, the Angels also received cash considerations.

The Reds Return

In exchange of Raisel Iglesias, the Cincinnati Reds are receiving right-handed reliever Noe Ramirez and a player to be named later. Ramirez was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB Draft. He also made his official MLB debut in 2015.

This past season, Ramirez made a total of 21 appearances out of the Angels bullpen putting up a 3.00 ERA along with 14 strikeouts along the way. He did conclude the season with a 4.52 Fielding Independent Percentage (FIP) and a 6.0 K/9 rate.

Ramirez is under control through the 2023 season and will enter his first season of arbitration this offseason.

For the Reds, the acquisition of Ramirez is one that helps the big league bullpen now. The loss of Iglesias is a significant one for the Reds, but Ramirez will help to add to Cincinnati’s depth in 2021.

Main Image:
Embed from Getty Images

The Los Angeles Angels announced Monday that they acquired closer Raisel Iglesias from the Cincinnati Reds along with cash considerations.
