The game was decided when the Astros broke a 1-1 tie in the ninth with a bases-loaded walk from Astros second baseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/altuvjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Altuve<\/a>. The walk came after a two-out error by shortstop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/polanjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jorge Polanco<\/a>. Astros left fielder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brantmi02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Brantley<\/a>, up next, added two insurance runs on a single. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/valdefr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Framber Valdez<\/a> pitched around two hits to finish the game off and take Game One against the Twins.<\/p>\n<h3>Both Teams Squandered Early Opportunities<\/h3>\n<p>The Twins put pressure on Astros pitcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greinza01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zack Greinke<\/a> right off the bat. After getting leadoff batter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/arraelu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luis Arraez<\/a> to ground out, the next three batters reached on a single and two walks. The veteran escaped the situation by getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosared01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eddie Rosario<\/a> to line out to first and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sanomi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miguel Sano<\/a> to ground out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bregmal01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Bregman<\/a>, who made a spectacular bare-handed play. The Astros had a bases-loaded opportunity in the fourth with two out, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/reddijo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Josh Reddick<\/a> struck out swinging.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams managed to push one run across before the ninth. Minnesota scored in the third when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=cruzne02,cruzne01&amp;search=Nelson+Cruz&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nelson Cruz<\/a> hit an RBI double, scoring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/keplema01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Kepler<\/a> from first. Houston scored in the seventh when Reddick, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/maldoma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martin Maldonado<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/springe01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Springer<\/a> all hit two out singles, Springer&#8217;s scoring the run.<\/p>\n<h3>Twins Implode In Ninth<\/h3>\n<p>The Astros began the ninth inning with back-to-back singles from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/gourryu01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yuli Gurriel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/correca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carlos Correa<\/a>. Twins reliever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/r\/romose01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sergio Romo<\/a> then got Reddick and Maldonado to foul out to third and fly out to left. That is when Springer hit a ground ball to Polanco, who threw to second, but it took Arraez off the base, loading the bases. After the error, Altuve drew a walk on a close pitch, scoring the go-ahead run and chasing Romo out of the game. The Twins brought in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/thielca01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caleb Thielbar<\/a>, who gave up a two-run single to Brantley. Thielbar got Bregman to ground out to end the threat, but the damage was already done.<\/p>\n<h3>Valdez Pitches Lights Out<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/texas-sports-nation\/astros\/article\/Astros-look-for-improved-start-from-Zack-Greinke-15604580.php\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greinke was pulled<\/a> after only four innings on 79 pitches, giving up one run in those innings. The left-handed Valdez came in and was excellent. After walking the first two batters he faced, Valdez was lights out. In fact, nobody reached against him until the ninth, where he gave up two hits. After the two singles, Valdez got pinch-hitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/astudwi01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willians Astudillo<\/a> to ground into a double play to end it.<\/p>\n<p>After a highly competitive game, the Astros have taken a 1-0 series lead over the Twins. Wednesday&#8217;s pitching matchup will feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/berrijo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Berrios<\/a> for the Twins.
