He went on to miss nearly the next six months before he came back in September as a pinch hitter. Lowrie was expected to be a part of the club this season. However, he was diagnosed with PCL laxity after coming to summer camp prepared to play.

Manager Luis Rojas has been asked about Lowrie throughout the season and repeatedly said he has no update. When he was on the field, Lowrie was wearing a big leg brace that was supposed to help him play. He even hit a double off of Jacob deGrom in an intrasquad game.

He was signed last offseason around the same time the New York Yankees signed DJ LeMahieu to a similar contract. LeMahieu has gone on to be an MVP caliber player while Lowrie has watched from the sidelines.

It is just another one of the poor moves Brodie Van Wagenen has made in his tenure as Mets General Manager. Nobody could have imagined that Lowrie, a former client of Van Wagenen, would miss nearly two seasons, but the reality is New York could have used the money elsewhere.

It also just goes to show why little has gone right for the Mets in the past few years. They signed a former All-Star and had him not register a hit in two seasons and are on their way to missing the postseason for a fourth consecutive season.

Main Image
Embed from Getty Images

The New York Mets signed Jed Lowrie to a two-year contract for $20 million dollars.
