We all remember <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenkh01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Khalil Greene&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0golden hair that flew from shortstop, the chords from \u2018Hells Bells\u2019 that echoed off Petco Park\u2019s walls and homers that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=gwynnto02,gwynnto01&amp;search=Tony+Gwynn&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Tony Gwynn<\/strong><\/a> rocked. But outside of being a San Diego local, recent history hasn\u2019t proven many reasons to fall in love with the Padres. Besides, when your home team fails to make the postseason in 13 seasons, it becomes tough to rally behind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now in the year 2020 that couldn\u2019t be further from the truth. This team is electric and is one of the most entertaining teams in baseball. Here are a few reasons why.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;El Ni\u00f1o&#8221; Can Do It All<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tatisfe02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Fernando Tatis Jr.<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> otherwise known as &#8220;El Ni\u00f1o,&#8221; finally gives the Padres a face of the franchise they can rally behind. Even though he is barely old enough to buy a beer, the kid adds a flame to not only the Padres clubhouse but to the game of baseball itself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tatis does it all. He can score from first base on singles, hit a grand slam on a 3-0 count, fire a throw from the hole at lightning speed, and dance around a tag sliding into home plate. He leads the league in home runs (12) and RBIs (29) and is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/leagues\/MLB\/2020-batting-leaders.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fifth in slugging percentage (.678)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His mere existence brings an entirely new element of talent to this lineup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Pads&#8217; Lineup Stays Red Hot<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Diego deals and steals. They are<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/stats\/team\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second in the league<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in home runs (55) and runs scored (163). They\u2019re fourth in slugging percentage (.468) and OPS (.799). Their hitting coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/easleda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Damion Easley<\/strong><\/a> also influenced the team\u2019s offensive strategy. For the past six seasons, the Padres were among the worst in on-base percentage. Now, after Easley encouraged more plate discipline, they\u2019re tied for fourth in walks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese guys do a good job of managing each at-bat,\u201d Easley<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/padres-hitters-staff-truly-commit-to-obp\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cEven if they&#8217;re 0-for-2, 0-for-3, you know you&#8217;re still going to get a high-quality at-bat, and they&#8217;re going to make the pitcher work for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re also swiping the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/stats\/team\/_\/view\/batting\/table\/batting\/sort\/stolenBases\/dir\/desc\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">second most bases<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with 28. And just last night, they became the first team in history to hit a grand slam in five out of six games and garnered the nickname \u201cSlam Diego\u201d Padres. While these relievers may push to their breaking points as the season continues, they pulled through with quite a bit of grit over the past several games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 60-game season is nearly halfway over. Only time will tell if Tatis\u2019s energy stays high, the Pads\u2019 bats stay hot and the bullpen stays afloat.
