For the second time in a week, the New York Mets<\/a> had to scratch their starting pitcher following an injury. David Peterson<\/a><\/strong>, who was scheduled to make the start Tuesday night against the Miami Marlins<\/a>, was placed on the injured list retroactive to August 14 with left shoulder fatigue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Roster Move\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

To make room on the roster, the Mets added Drew Smith<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> They also sent down Franklyn Kilome<\/strong><\/a> to the alternate training site in Brooklyn and recalled Corey Oswalt<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to make the start on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jacob deGrom<\/a><\/strong> had to be scratched from his start Friday<\/a> against the Philad<\/a>elphia<\/a> Phillies<\/a> after neck stiffness. With Kilome being sent down, it also likely cements Steven Matz<\/a><\/strong> rotation spot for now. He is scheduled to start Thursday in Miami.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

David Peterson and Corey Oswalt<\/span><\/h2>\n

Peterson was off to a terrific start and had wins in three of his last four starts. Peterson came out after the fifth inning in his previous start. After the game, Peterson said he would have been able to stay in the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Oswalt, who has pitched in one game this season and allowed five runs in four innings, will make his first start with New York since 2018. He has really struggled with the Mets and pitched to an ERA over 12.00 in 12 appearances last season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mets can only hope that Peterson is able to return for his next start. New York already has Michael Wacha<\/a><\/strong> on the injured list. They also lost another Noah Syndergaard<\/a><\/strong> to Tommy John surgery<\/a> prior to the season and had Marcus Stroman<\/a> <\/strong>opt-out for the season<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Mets also hope to have deGrom back on the mound Wednesday night as the Mets rotation consists of Robert Gsellman<\/a><\/strong>, Rick Porcello<\/a><\/strong>, deGrom, Matz, and Oswalt. Walker Lockett<\/a> is also on the roster and would most likely start if either deGrom or Matz don’t pitch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
