The New York Mets<\/a> continue to make changes to their 60 man player pool as they announced the addition of top-prospect<\/a>, Ronny Mauricio<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To make room on the roster, the Mets moved Rene Rivera<\/a><\/strong> to the 45-day injured list. This move comes days after<\/a> New York promoted both Francisco Alvarez<\/strong><\/a> and Matthew Allan<\/a><\/strong>, who are both top-five prospects in the organization.<\/p>\n

Ronny Mauricio<\/h2>\n

Mauricio not making the 60-man player pool came as a surprise, considering there is no minor league season this year. By being added, he will be allowed to participate in intrasquad games at the alternate location in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Manager Luis Rojas<\/a><\/strong> did not rule out the possibility of either Alvarez<\/a> or Allan<\/a> getting a chance to play this season. This should apply to Mauricio as well, especially if the Mets continue to struggle. They have seen their number three ranked prospect, Andres Gimenez<\/a><\/strong> rise from a defensive replacement to one of the team\u2019s best hitters after he did not appear to be on the radar for the 2020 season.<\/p>\n

Mauricio is a terrific fielder and is a contact hitter. His power will likely come as he gets older. The young phenom though has never played over Single-A ball and only hit .268 in the 2019 season.<\/p>\n

Once again, the Mets have added another prospect to the player pool. Mauricio is now eligible to be traded at the August 31st trade deadline. However, Mauricio seems to be someone New York will keep at all measures considering the struggles Amed Rosario<\/a><\/strong> has had in 2020.<\/p>\n

For the rest of the Mets, they are going to need to get going. As of Monday’s game the Mets sit in last place in the NL East. They begin a series with the Miami Marlins<\/a> on Monday before they return home to face the New York Yankees<\/a> on Friday in what could be a pivotal week for the Mets.<\/p>\n
