Madison Bumgarner on 10-Day Injured List<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> placed left-handed pitcher Madison Bumgarner<\/a><\/strong> on the 10-day injured list with a mid-back strain on Monday afternoon, according to a team press release. In his stead, they have called up right-hander Jeremy Beasley<\/a><\/strong> from the Alternate Training site.<\/p>\n

Madison Bumgarner has had a rough start to the 2020 season. In four starts, he has gone 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA (221 ERA-). In addition, he has 13 strikeouts, seven walks, and a 1.558 WHIP in 17 1\/3 innings. He has allowed 20 hits, 18 earned runs, and seven home runs while hitting four batters. All are highest in the National League.<\/p>\n

His velocity has been down in all four starts. In Sunday\u2019s road start against the San Diego Padres<\/a>, he lasted only two innings, allowing six runs, all earned. Six of the 12 hitters he faced reached base, one via walk and the other five on base hits. Four of the five hits were home runs; the other was a sharp single to center.<\/p>\n

The Injury<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The back pain started in the middle of the night between Saturday and Sunday. Bumgarner told the press following Sunday\u2019s game, a 9-5 loss, that it woke him up. He thought he had slept in an awkward position, so he shifted and went back to sleep. When he woke up Sunday morning, it still hurt, \u201cmaybe a little worse,\u201d in his words. He had the team training staff work on him before the game, and he felt a little bit better.<\/p>\n

Despite not feeling 100%, he took the mound, hoping to grind out enough innings to give the relievers a break. In hindsight, he said, \u201cit looks like, obviously, I should not have been out there.\u201d However, given Bumgarner\u2019s competitive nature and the fact that he\u2019s pitched well before while not feeling 100%, \u201cat the time, I felt like I could find a way (to) get guys out and keep us in the game, but it just didn\u2019t work out that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeremy Beasley Called Up<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Jeremy Beasley joined the Diamondbacks on January 14. He came from the Los Angeles Angels<\/a> in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt Andriese<\/a><\/strong>. He has played three seasons in the minors. For most of 2019, he pitched for the Double-A Mobile Bay Bears. He went 6-7 with a 4.06 ERA (111 ERA-), 102 strikeouts, 42 walks, a 1.399 WHIP, and 108 2\/3 innings in 23 games (22 starts). Beasley also made three starts for the Triple-A Salt Lake (City) Bees, going 1-0 with a 7.90 ERA (144 ERA-), 13 strikeouts, six walks, and a 1.829 WHIP in 13 2\/3 innings. His first appearance in a game for the Diamondbacks, whenever that happens, will be his major league debut.<\/p>\n

The Diamondbacks begin a three-game series in Denver Monday evening against the 11-3 Colorado Rockies<\/a>. Currently, the Diamondbacks are last in the National League West with a record of 6-10.<\/p>\n
