According to Jeff Passan, Stroman has collected enough MLB service time to reach free agency this winter. He also voiced concerns in heading to Miami this week, a hotspot for COVID-19. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/miami-marlins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miami Marlins<\/a> had an outbreak on their team earlier in the season, leading to discussions of the season&#8217;s cancellation. In recent weeks, the Marlins, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/st-louis-cardinals\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Cardinals<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/philadelphia-phillies\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> have all had positive tests among staff or players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with MLB stepping up its safety measures, players have still voiced concern over the completion of the season. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/chicago\/cubs\/report-st-louis-cardinals-went-casino-covid-19-outbreak\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> It was reported<\/a> that the cause of the Marlins and Cardinals outbreaks were players spending time at casinos and clubs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The right-handed starter\u2019s opting out comes only <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eight days after <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cespeyo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yoenis Cespedes<\/a><\/strong> abruptly left the team due to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/2020\/08\/02\/yoenis-cespedes-opts-out-for-reminder-of-2020-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19 concerns<\/a>. The Mets will have some heavy shoes to fill with Cespedes and Stroman out of the equation, especially due to a lack of pitching depth. This means that young pitchers such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=peterda01,peters012dav&amp;search=David+Peterson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Peterson<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=smith-013kev,smith-010kev,smith-012kev,smith-015kev&amp;search=Kevin+Smith&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Smith<\/a><\/strong> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=szapuc000tho&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Thomas Szapucki<\/strong><\/a> will likely make up for the loss of Stroman, eating into their service time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Stroman&#8217;s Career<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stoman, an All-Star in 2019, has only pitched 11 games and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">59.2 innings <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">since he was traded to the Mets from the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/toronto-blue-jays\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> last season. The Blue Jays received Simeon Woods-Richardson and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kayan01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Kay<\/a><\/strong> in return.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over his seven-year big league career, Stroman has posted a 3.76 ERA and 51-47 record.
