Edwin Diaz<\/a><\/strong> had a miserable season for the New York Mets<\/a><\/strong> in 2019. He lost his closer role while allowing 15 home runs in the ninth inning<\/a>. Diaz was given a chance to start this shortened 60-game season as the closer. But it has not worked out.<\/p>\n

The trade that general manager Brodie Van Wagenen made before last year has simply not worked out. It was one of the first big moves he made as the general manager of the Mets. Van Wagenen gave up a pair of prospects in Jarred Kelenic<\/strong><\/a> and Justin Dunn<\/strong><\/a> and have received little contributions from Robinson Cano<\/a><\/strong> and Diaz.<\/p>\n

Start of 2020 Season<\/h2>\n

In his first appearance with the Mets, Edwin Diaz nearly gave you a game-tying home run to Freddie Freeman<\/a><\/strong>. He survived the ninth inning and registered his first save of the year. However, he did blow the save on Saturday. With the Atlanta Braves<\/a><\/strong> down their final strike, Diaz allowed a game-tying home run to Marcell Ozuna<\/a><\/strong>. The Mets went on to lose the game in extra innings.<\/p>\n
