According to multiple reports including ESPN’s Jim Bowden, the Kansas City Royals and first basemen Brandon Moss<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> have agreed\u00a0on a two-year, $12 million deal, pending a physical expected to be completed early in the week.<\/p>\n

Brandon Moss Signs Deal with the Kansas City Royals<\/h2>\n

The 33 year-old left-handed slugger has been a steady source of power of the last few years. With the recent acquisition of Jorge Soler<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, Kansas City now has a pair of players with persistent home run potential.<\/p>\n

The St. Louis Cardinals\u00a0had discussions with Moss’ agent about an extension during the 2016 season. However, a\u00a0colossal\u00a0slump in September, in which he batted .084, curbed those talks.<\/p>\n

Since the Cardinals elected not to extend Moss a qualifying offer, signing him does not come at the sacrifice of a draft pick,\u00a0which certainly adds\u00a0to his appeal. Moss hit .225\/.300\/.484 with 28 home runs in 413 at-bats for St. Louis\u00a0in 2016.<\/p>\n

Moss is likely to get most of his plate appearances at the designated hitter spot that Kendrys Morales<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> once held. In addition to playing first base, Moss can also play the corner outfield positions, making him a prime target for the Royals. The organization will likely be busy during the next two weeks as they potentially look for a starter to replace the tragic loss of Yordano Ventura<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 10 major-league seasons, Moss has spent time with Boston, Pittsburgh, Oakland, Cleveland and St. Louis. He famously hit two homers against the Royals in the 2014 Wild Card Game at Kauffman Stadium.<\/p>\n
