The center fielder went 3 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBI as his <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/los-angeles-dodgers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> defeated the visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/arizona-diamondbacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a>, 9-2, in exhibition play Sunday night.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Rough First Inning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The first inning began with a bang against Dodgers starting pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=white-000mit&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mitchell White<\/a><\/strong> as right fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/calhoko01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kole Calhoun<\/a><\/strong> flied to the track in deep center. The next hitter, second baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/marteke01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ketel Marte<\/a><\/strong>, blasted the second pitch into the right-field bleachers to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. The next two hitters \u2013 center fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/martest01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Starling Marte<\/a><\/strong> and third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/escobed01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduardo Escobar<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 also hit the ball hard, but they were a fly to center and an unassisted groundout to first, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The first two hitters in the bottom of the inning \u2013 right fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bettsmo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mookie Betts<\/a><\/strong> and first baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/muncyma01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Max Muncy<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 walked against Diamondbacks right-hander <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=widene000tay&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Widener<\/a><\/strong>. Third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/turneju01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Justin Turner<\/a><\/strong>, up next, ripped a liner to the mound. Widener stuck his glove up. Had he caught it, it would have been an easy triple play. However, he could only knock it down, and everyone was safe. Bellinger made that costly when he followed with a grand slam to the second row in right. When the next hitter, shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/s\/seageco01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corey Seager<\/a><\/strong>, walked, both teams agreed to pull the plug, ending the inning with the Dodgers leading, 4-1.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Pitchers Settle Down<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>White pitched four more innings and retired every Diamondback he faced. Widener pitched a perfect second and struck out the first batter in the third before allowing a single to Betts. Muncy doubled Betts to third before Turner lifted a sacrifice fly to center. It scored Betts and advanced Muncy to third, making the score 5-1. A follow-up single by Bellinger made it 6-1, but the Dodgers did no further damage as shortstop Corey Seager followed with a strikeout.<\/p>\n<p>After a scoreless bottom of the fourth, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bradlar01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Archie Bradley<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 named closer on Friday by Diamondbacks manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lovulto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Torey Lovullo<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 pitched the bottom of the fifth. Two doubles \u2013 a leadoff one by Muncy and a two-out one by Seager \u2013 made the score 6-1.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Relievers Take Over<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Diamondbacks snapped their hitless streak in the top of the sixth when shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/ahmedni01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Ahmed<\/a><\/strong> welcomed reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kolarad01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Kolarek<\/a><\/strong> to the game with a single. He did not advance, however. Off-season signee <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/g\/guerrju02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Junior Guerra<\/a><\/strong> struck out the side in relief in the bottom of the sixth.<\/p>\n<p>The seventh inning saw the Diamondbacks go down in order yet again. In the bottom of the inning, the Dodgers extended their lead. A leadoff double by Betts off new pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/crichst01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stefan Crichton<\/a><\/strong> turned into a run thanks to a passed ball and a one-out RBI single by substitute shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=tayloch03,taylor006chr&amp;search=Chris+Taylor&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Taylor<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the top of the eighth, the Diamondbacks made it an 8-2 ballgame when they broke through off reliever <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=gonzal008vic,gonzal007vic&amp;search=Victor+Gonzalez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Gonzalez<\/a><\/strong>. Catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kellyca02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Kelly<\/a><\/strong> led off with a single and advanced to second when first baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lambja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Lamb<\/a><\/strong>, up next, had a pitch hit him in the hand. Shortstop Nick Ahmed followed with a rocket back up the middle, but Gonzalez gloved it. This kicked off a 1-6-3 double play that advanced Kelly to third. An RBI single by designated hitter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/v\/vogtst01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephen Vogt<\/a><\/strong> drove him in. Three straight singles by the Dodgers in the bottom of the eighth brought in the game\u2019s final run.<\/p>\n<p>The teams play again at Dodger Stadium Monday evening.
