Monday, MLB<\/a> officially announced<\/a> the 2020 regular season schedule. Within that announcement, came other exciting news including what dates to circle on the calendar. As is the case every season, there are always special dates that you don’t want to miss.<\/p>\n First of all, the most important date on the calendar is Thursday, July 23rd. On that date, the season will start with a tremendous starting pitching matchup between Gerrit Cole<\/strong><\/a> and Max Scherzer<\/strong><\/a> as the New York Yankees<\/a> take on the reigning World Series Champion Washington Nationals<\/a>. Later on that evening, the San Francisco Giants<\/a> square off against an arch rival in the Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a>.<\/p>\n Furthermore, once Friday, July 24th rolls around, that’s when the season starts for the remaining twenty-six teams. Among the most notable games that day are the Atlanta Braves<\/a> vs. the New York Mets<\/a>, the Minnesota Twins<\/a> vs. the Chicago White Sox<\/a>, and the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> vs. the San Diego Padres<\/a>.<\/p>\n In addition, on Friday, July 24th the Texas Rangers<\/a> square off against the Colorado Rockies<\/a>. That game is of note because it’s the first one to take place at the Rangers new home – Globe Life Field<\/a>.<\/p>\n As the calendar turns to August, there are several dates to circle as well. First, is Thursday, August 13th when the MLB Field of Dreams Game<\/a> takes place. That will feature a premier Midwest matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals<\/a> and aforementioned Chicago White Sox. Even with the Coronavirus pandemic, MLB is still planning to forge ahead with plans to hold the game.<\/p>\n On Sunday, August 16th MLB is planning to hold events league wide to honor the 100th Anniversary of the Negro Leagues<\/a>. Although the anniversary was suppose to be on June 27th, that obviously didn’t happen. Additionally, on Tuesday, August 28th MLB will honor Jackie Robinson<\/strong><\/a>. Of course, Robinson helped to break the color barrier in the game of baseball and is a legend in every regard.<\/p>\n Finally, once Monday, August 31st rolls around, that is when the MLB Trade Deadline will occur. In a normal year, the non-waiver trade deadline takes place on July 31st with the waiver trade deadline on August 31st. Obviously with the schedule adjustment this year, the date had to be pushed back meaning every team will have about 35 games to determine if they are a contender or pretender.<\/p>\n The month of September starts off with a recognition of another legend, Roberto Clemente<\/strong><\/a>. MLB will hold ceremonies across the league for Clemente on Wednesday, September 9th. Clemente’s team, the Pittsburgh Pirates<\/a>, will square off against the White Sox that day at PNC Park.<\/p>\n Finally, two other important dates to circle include Tuesday, September 15th and Sunday, September 27th. On the 15th, that is the final date for teams to include players on their roster who are eligible for the postseason. Finally, on the 27th, the regular season officially concludes.<\/p>\n In the end, the 2020 season is going to be one that baseball has never seen before. The biggest message that baseball will send to all thirty teams is to be flexible and open-minded.
