He was only 25 years old.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Yordano Ventura Dies in Car Accident<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>According to Colonel Jacobo Mateo Moquete, director of communications for the military and police of the Dominican Republic,\u00a0Ventura was killed on the\u00a0Juan Adri\u00e1n highway in San Jose de Ocoa. His\u00a0death comes on the same day former Cleveland Indians infielder <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/martean01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andy Marte<\/a><\/strong> was killed in a car crash in the Dominican. The accidents are unrelated.<\/p>\n<p>Ventura made his debut for the Royals in 2013 and was immediately known for his fastball, which sometimes topped 100 mph. He was also known for his fiery temper, at times; he earned a suspension\u00a0for nine games last season after throwing at Orioles third basemen <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/machama01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manny Machado<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>He donned the nickname Ace Ventura in Kansas City and would\u00a0go on to play a pivotal part in its AL pennant winning team from 2014 and its World Series championship team in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>What was perhaps Ventura\u2019s most defining moment may have come during Game 6 of the 2014 World Series, when he\u00a0paid tribute to his fellow countryman and friend, the late St. Louis Cardinals\u00a0outfielder <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/t\/taveros01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oscar Taveras<\/a><\/strong>, who had died in an accident in the Dominican Republic.\u00a0Ventura allowed three hits over seven shutout innings that night, helping Kansas City force a Game 7.\u00a0Ventura pitched his final game while wearing inscriptions on his hat\u00a0paying tribute to Taveras and Miami Marlins pitcher <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?results=fernajo02,fernajo01,fernan008jos,fernan015jos&amp;search=Jose+Fernandez&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jose Fernandez<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ventura started 93 games in his career with the Royals, posting a 38-31 record and 3.89 ERA. He went 27-18 in 2014-15, when the Royals won back-to-back American League pennants and the 2015 World Series.
