(Mar. 7) \u2013 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lambja01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Lamb<\/a><\/strong> hit two doubles and a home run to lead a scoring onslaught as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/arizona-diamondbacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> defeated the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonbaseball.com\/mlb-teams\/san-diego-padres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Diego Padres<\/a>, 10-5, in Cactus League play on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Diamondbacks Bat Around in First as Padres Struggle to Find the Zone<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Padres starting pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lucchjo01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joey Lucchesi<\/a><\/strong> struggled in the first inning. Leadoff hitter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/marteke01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ketel Marte<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 the Diamondbacks second baseman \u2013 legged out an infield single, beating out a high, slow chopper to second. After catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kellyca02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Kelly<\/a><\/strong> walked, third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/e\/escobed01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduardo Escobar<\/a><\/strong> lined a sharp single to left. That brought up first baseman Jake Lamb, who lined a rocket into the right-center-field gap for a base-clearing double.<\/p>\n<p>With the score now 4-0 and still nobody out, shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/a\/ahmedni01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Ahmed<\/a><\/strong> walked, putting runners on first and second for left fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=smith-000pav&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pavin Smith<\/a><\/strong>. It went opposite field against the shift, rolling through the empty spot where the third baseman usually plays. First baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/f\/francty01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ty France<\/a><\/strong> followed with a homer to left-center, making the score 4-2. Shortstop <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=cronen000jac&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Cronenworth<\/a><\/strong>, up next, flied to right, sending the game to the bottom of the fourth.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Padres Tie It Up, Diamondbacks Immediately Respond<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Diamondbacks stranded a runner on third in the bottom of the fourth. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/b\/bradlar01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Archie Bradley<\/a><\/strong> took over on the mound for the Diamondbacks in the fifth. Left fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/c\/cordefr02.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Franchy Cordero<\/a><\/strong> welcomed him to the game with a homer to right-center on the first pitch, cutting the Arizona lead to 4-3. A walk, a forceout, and a grounder to third later, designated hitter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/p\/phamth01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tommy Pham<\/a><\/strong> dumped a single to center, scoring center fielder Abraham Almonte from second to tie the game. Second baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/d\/doziebr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brian Dozier<\/a><\/strong> came up next and fanned, retiring the side.<\/p>\n<p>Lamb gave the lead back to his team in the bottom of the inning, sending a 3-2 fastball from new pitcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=bachar000lak&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lake Bachar<\/a><\/strong> over the fence in straightaway right for a leadoff homer. After shortstop Nick Ahmed grounded to a diving Greg Garcia at third, the Diamondbacks rattled off four straight hits. Smith ripped a single to right and went to third on a follow-up double by Thompson. They both scored when speedy center fielder Ben DeLuzio, up next, tripled off the center-field fence. Reserve third baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=mathis000wya&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wyatt Mathisen<\/a><\/strong> then smoked a double off the fence in right, scoring DeLuzio and making the score 8-4. The next two hitters \u2013 Carson Kelly and reserve second baseman <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=ahmed-000mic&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Ahmed<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 popped to second and flied to the track in left, respectively, ending the inning.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Padres Threaten, but Diamondbacks Extend Lead<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Bradley ran into trouble in the top of the sixth after allowing a one-out walk and a double. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=garcia002jun&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Junior Garcia<\/a><\/strong> relieved him and bailed him out, striking out Cordero and getting catcher <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mejiafr01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Francisco Mejia<\/a><\/strong> to ground to short.<\/p>\n<p>Lamb continued abusing the Padres pitching staff with a leadoff double to right in the bottom of the inning, but that\u2019s where he remained for the rest of the frame, as Nick Ahmed flied to right and Smith grounded to second, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Diamondbacks pushed across another run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a combination of a hit batsman, two walks, and a wild pitch. A 10th run came in the bottom of the eighth. Reserve left fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=diaz--004edu&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eduardo Diaz<\/a><\/strong> led off with a double. After a walk and two strikeouts, he scored on a single to left by reserve third baseman Wyatt Mathisen.<\/p>\n<p>The Padres scored in the top of the ninth thanks to a leadoff triple by reserve left fielder <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/register\/player.fcgi?id=tramme000tay&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taylor Trammell<\/a><\/strong>. He scored on a sacrifice fly by the next batter, Mejia. No one else came across in the inning, giving the Diamondbacks a 10-5 victory.<\/p>\n<p>Bradley received the win while Bachar took the loss.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ahmed Brothers on the Same Field<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A special highlight of the game came in the top of the fifth, when brothers Nick and Mike Ahmed took the field as the shortstop and second baseman, respectively. They played two innings together and nearly turned a double play in the fifth. Almonte hit a grounder to Nick, who threw to Mike for a force out on Mejia. Mike\u2019s throw to first, however, was a split second late. Manager <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/l\/lovulto01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Torey Lovullo<\/a><\/strong> said after the game, \u201cWe were semi-overshifted\u2026.
