Tim Tebow<\/a> will be officially changing his career from the NFL<\/strong> to MLB<\/strong> as he was given a minor league contract by the New York Mets<\/strong>. ESPN<\/strong> NFL Insider Adam Schefter<\/strong> reported the news. Tebow will start his professional baseball career in the Arizona Fall League<\/strong> or the Instructional League<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tim Tebow’s Football Career<\/h3>\n

Tebow announced in August that he would pursue a career in baseball after not getting a quarterback job in the NFL<\/strong> since 2012.<\/p>\n

Tebow’s fame started in college when he was quarterback for the Florida Gators<\/strong>. He finished his four years there with 9,285 passing yards, 88 passing touchdowns, 16 interceptions, 2,947 rushing yards, and 57 rushing touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Tebow won two BCS National Championship <\/strong>games with the Gators in 2007 and 2009. He also won the Heisman<\/strong> trophy in 2007 which made him the first Sophomore to win the award.<\/p>\n

Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos<\/strong> in the first round (25th overall) of 2010 NFL Draft. He played in nine games (three starts) in 2010 and had 654 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.<\/p>\n

In his next year he got more playing time. He played in 14 games (11 starts) and had 1,729 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a 46.5 completion percentage. Tebow did start in the playoffs and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/strong> in overtime in the Wild Card<\/strong> round. The next week Tebow lost to the New England Patriots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tebow was traded to the New York Jets<\/strong> in 2012. That year he backed up Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez<\/a>. Tebow did not start a game at quarterback in the season, but instead did time at the tight end and full back positions.<\/p>\n

After 2012 Tebow couldn’t land a job with any team. He only got on the Patriots for preseason in 2013 and the Philadelphia Eagles<\/strong> for preseason in 2015.<\/p>\n

Tebow worked out for scouts of almost every MLB team at the end of August. He displayed decent power and speed and got mixed reviews from the scouts.<\/p>\n

“The goal would be to have a career in the big leagues,” Tebow said according to Valley Morning Star<\/a>. “I just want to be someone to pursue what I believe in, what I’m passionate about.”<\/p>\n
